Reading Phog message board has been a nice diversion. Snacks gets brought up a couple times, Cliff a couple of times, and Bragg a few. All speculation, however there is a nervous anger on their board

I am wondering if there is any actual obligation, though. What if the kid decides he doesn't want to hold up his end? I am honestly wondering how that would work here.

Also, it is a broad question. Do parents sign their kids up to model for commercials or something like that and take the money? I'm sure. I think it's kind of creepy and personally wouldn't do it, but I'm sure that happens all the time.

I think it is pretty clear there is no legal obligation whatsoever. A minor cannot enter into a binding legal contract for future services, and his parents certainly can't bind him to it, either.

I'd be interested in learning how many kids and/or parents take the money and then fail to uphold their end of the bargain. What can the "financial advisor", or Adidas for that matter, do about it?

Nervous anger everywhere.

“I think the expectation of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI is that this is just the tip of the iceberg,” said former federal prosecutor Edward McDonald, now an attorney with Dechert LLP in New York. “Some of these people have been charged are beginning to cooperate and there’s others who may have been in the line of fire. It could explode and be [dozens] of people, if not hundreds.”

If I recall, Mark Emmert was deeply disturbed by the charges. That'll be a nice starter to the conversation with congress. :thumb:

“The federal government’s investigation into sports companies and basketball coaches at numerous colleges across the nation is extremely troubling and puts into serious question the NCAA’s ability to oversee its own institutions.”

Lack of institutional control, one might say. The entire thing is a mess and needs to be cleaned up.

Gregg Doyle had a nice article about all this.
He referenced a conversation he overheard by a "SEC" coach in 2006 (the coach didn't know Doyle was there) lamenting the fact he had somehow been outbid by "Big12" coach for the services of a highly sought after recruit.
No clue who "SEC" coach was since it was pre-Coach Cal time period, but I thought "Big12" coach had to be Self.

My guess is that if you were to put a title on all the coaches on each staff, i.e. X/Os coach, Players Coach, Recruiter ect.... You could pick out a vast majority of who to look at next in these investigations.

If it was a kid in the class of 2006 that would have been a freshman for the 2007 basketball season.....Mr Kevin Durant at Texas?

Couldn't get a sense of whether the kid was already on campus or not.
The incident took place at a restaurant leading into the Final Four weekend.
I was thinking it was a then Freshman, but you could very well be correct

I don't think he has to cheat anymore. He has a heck of a proven pitch to a potential one and done.

I don't know.
Liars lie, and cheaters cheat.
Could Cal have "gone straight" these last few years? Maybe. But he, without question, became insanely wealthy and popular via cheating. For some, it's the thrill of getting away with the crime that is addicting. That's why, for example, you read about rich people getting caught stealing things from department stores they can easily afford.

It would be hilarious to see Bail walked off in handcuffs. Not because I hold any enduring spite for him. I'd killed to have him these last 14 or so years. It would just be hilarious.

Talk about something coming out of left field. Who woke up a couple days ago thinking something big like this could suddenly pop up? It would be amazing to see the HCs at all the blue bloods suddenly dropped like a hot potato. Just leave Brad alone.

We'll see how good Rauf's sources are -- says Adidas trying to get Zion Williamson to Kansas.

OK, a couple of hours ago, none (ok, maybe 1?) have ever heard of this guy. He tosses BU name in a TBI (to be investigated) list (which I think we all expect them to speak with him due to relationship with Evans).

Now, he is posting about something to help bring down Kansas, and we think he is legit?

Rauf's Q rating is skyrocketing!!!:D

That may make sense against the likes of Illinois. However, Duke, UNC, Louisville before yesterday compete for the same recruits, do he still needs this pitch IMHO.
