You would think Scheyer would have gotten a really good pure point guard this year either through the portal or a player right out of high school. What was the point in getting Mason Gillis from Purdue? He's not a point guard. Braeden Smith running Duke this year at the point would not have lost to Houston. Purdue almost beat Houston this year with just two good players and a lot of supporting-type players. Smith had 15 assists against Houston.
I don't know. They were the highest-rated team in KenPom history by a fair margin (more than 5% over '15 Kentucky). They surrendered a 15-3 run in the final three mins yesterday. They seemed to do just fine this season until the plane suddenly flew into the mountain, Big Lebowski stylz, in 180 seconds.

Yeah, but the world doesn't need Kelvin Sampson to win a national championship.
I’m pragmatic. I’d rather see a cheater win the title than a creepy stalker. I prefer my coaches sleazy on the recruiting trail, not in bed. 😂

Having said that… in retrospect, perhaps us losing Eric Gordon and all that followed was a good thing. Could you imagine Indiana right now had Kelvin Sampson stayed there? 😳

Nothing was proven against Golden correct? I would think that as Illinois fans we would be a little more resistant about convicting someone, or calling them something awful, based upon accusations. Seems like we've seen the dark side of that...

it’s a matter of reading deeper than just message board fodder. In the Golden case, you have multiple women making accusations which involve texts and photographs sent to them. Now i suppose it’s possible that a group of women who don’t appear to know each other could conspire and make up an incredible story and falsify a plethora of photos and texts, but believing that strains credulity. It’s even less likely that multiple women would claim to have “receipts” in the form of texts and photos when they don’t.

It’s also important to note that this was a Title 9 investigation. Under the first Trump administration, it was deemed that an investigation such as this one could not go forward as it would be a violation of the accused right to free speech. In essence, sending Dick pics and stalking photos would be considered within the accused’s First Amendment rights. That of course is ludicrous, so the Biden Administration reversed that. However, Florida filed an injunction, so it currently operates under the first Trump Administration ruling. So when the University of Florida said it found no grounds for investigation, it’s saying “we currently have no legal grounds to investigate the coach’s first amendment right to send dick pics.”

Compare that to TSJ’s case, which was laughably absurd from the start. The police report was written one month after the fact, had conflicting charges and was backdated incorrectly. It was a cacophony of errors from the start.

So I suppose it’s possible that Todd Golden is the victim of a grand conspiracy. But that doesn’t pass the smell test of logic. Much like the charges against TSJ didn’t either.

Were stalking or any other charges ever filed against him? If there was evidence of what any of them said happened(said "receipts") then I would assume there would be enough to charge him with something. Were there even orders of protection filed(which are pretty easy to get)? Are there police reports? I'm not aware of any legal proceedings outside of the university looking at Title IX violations. My point is that accusations mean next to nothing. Maybe he did some of these things, maybe not. I have no idea and neither do you...and I don't think its right to act otherwise.

No criminal charges at the moment. That might or might not come later. And you’re correct… no one here knows for sure. But if you read deeper than just the message boards, you’re able to find more information that allows you to form a more informed opinion. This is one of those cases where you’d have to perform some impressive mental gymnastics to conclude that there’s absolutely nothing there.

This tournament, other than the early exit of The Beloved, has been quite satisfying. Satan, aka pearl, won't be national champion, Scheyer gets bounced in spectacular fashion on the same day as satan and just a few days earlier the biggest Illini hating clown on chitcago radio is disgraced and terminated. A very rewarding few weeks, indeed!

That’s always been my take as well. If the case against Golden was as strong as the court of public opinion wants us to believe, compelling evidence would already be public or at least corroborated.

I’m not saying Golden is innocent. I’m just saying I haven’t seen anything showing me he’s guilty of what has been alleged. I’ll change my opinion if and when I see evidence.

Have you actually looked?

Here’s an article that adds greater depth into the accusations. While it’s true these are merely accusations, it strains credulity to believe that multiple women would make up similar stories which involve evidence that could be easily verified or debunked if requested.

And, at the end of the day, this whole discussion is about who I’d rather root for: a known cheater who, to his credit, has served his time vs someone who, on the surface at least, appears to be a creepy, habitual stalker. Lesser of two karmic evils is, to me, the cheater.

I mean no criminal charges ever got filed against Deshaun Watson either but when you have multiple accusers that seemingly have no relation it might lend some credence to their side.

I’ve looked. I need more than a student newspaper’s allegations.

Sampson is a proven cheater who screwed Illinois. It’s like rooting for Pearl.

Collins is a way better coach. All Scheyer has shown is that he can continue the incredible talent acquisition that K enjoyed.
That's a little tough on Scheyer. You can be a great recruiter, you can't just sleepwalk your way into a Final Four.

Between FL and Houston, who cares? I watched the UConn women dismantle S. Carolina yesterday in a total blowout. They always play the game right in every way. Their defense was consistently suffocating. And even though their threes weren't falling, they won by nearly 30 points (against a superb team).

"All" is a big deal though. Recruiting is the lifeblood of success. In-gym and on-the-bench coaching is important, but not as much as is recruiting.
I’m guessing it must irritate coaches who spent years paying their dues, and a relatively young Scheyer just be handed the keys to the Mercedes. Also, it must be so easy being a Duke fan.

If you look solely at his records you would assume Scheyer is a phenomenal coach but I think the jury is still out.

He can very clearly recruit and utilize his top tier resources to get talent but 2 out of his 3 teams have simply not been good and this year he did have a dominant and extremely talented team but bowed out in a game that they really had no business losing.

Last years team really was not good and they got a flukey elite 8 run because Shead got injured immediately in the sweet 16 game(they beat Vermont and James Madison to get there and then lost to a very hot but less talented NC State team). His first year was a pretty mediocre team as well.

Will be interesting to see how he moves forward next year with the Boozers. He's got another loaded class of freshman but it feels a little bit like he's trying to build teams the way Kentucky did pre transfer portal. Obviously he had a special team this year but it's pretty rare to get freshman that complement each other that well and Cal only managed to do it a few times at Kentucky.

Also, think he's been helped by a bad ACC though Louisville seems to be building something.
