If he has this enviable success it’s at a lower level than here.

I pose this question to the board, who does Podz play over on this team?

If Podz were still here, this is what I see.

Skyy
RJ
TJ
Mayer
Hawk

Ty
Luke
Epps
Dainja
Sencire
Podz
This might not be fair to Podz. If he’s scoring 30 at a lower level he would probably get some tick on this team. Just in more of a role player role. I wish we had him still

This is exactly the type of Illini curse story I've come to expect as a fan. One of our all time greats mentors a promising freshman, only for said freshman to part ways with the team and then go on to transfer and achieve enviable success and then give all the credit to our all time great player for molding him into the amazing player that he is. Pulling for Podz but really hope this story doesn't come true...
I call it a feel good story...all the best.....

The only person I really see him switching with is Sencire, but Sencire has the physical ability on defense that Podz just doesn't have. And our press suits SH really well. I have nothing against Podz the person or player, I just don't think he fits very well with us this year.

Maybe you make the argument he switches with Epps, but Epps is a primary handler, quick, and has higher upside. All things equal, you play the younger guy with the higher upside most of the time.

I don't know if Podz would take minutes from Epps, but I do know Coach is not going to play Epps because he is a young guy with higher upside. He would play one or the other because they are better at something he wants. Usually defense.

RE Curbelo....
Really hurt to see him go... looked like he was having a great time in O&B. Perhaps the crowd moving on was more influence than relationship with coaches and the new crew to stay. He's going to figure out how to play within himself and its going to be fun to watch. Unfortunately, he'll be doing it in Queens, in front of a meager crowd in Carnasecca, making passes to teammates who "aren't up to college speed yet". Dammyouandre!

Hence the “all things equal” from the post you quoted. At that equal point, upside wins out.

In our tournament loss to Loyola, Adam Miller was our best player. I didn't want to see him leave. I don't know what he was looking for, but he would have been our #1 option last year. I just assume there was some kind of chemistry issue. It happens. I think Podziemski quickly saw the writing on the wall. He saw he could be a good and valued contributor, but not a serious cog. I think he just wanted to "play" and it wasn't going to happen here. Reasonable decision. Never been to Santa Clara, but it sounds nice.

#1 option? Before or after Kofi??

Number one option over Kofi?

I wish him well. If he’s here last season, then we don’t have Plummer who was a key to a Big Ten title. Miller may be better than Plummer, but it worked out ok for Illinois.

I think it's obvious that Miller can shoot and is a much more complete and better player than Plummer. With that being said Plummer was very important last year and AM was hurt.

I generally agree, but I think Plummer was better at creating his own shot last season than AM had been his Freshman year and given some of our issues with PG depth that was pretty valuable to have. AM is a much better defender though.

I appreciate Plummers ability to shoot very well quickly. AM can too he was playing with Ayp and Kofi so things were a lot different. Just watch and see what Miller does as a primary or secondary scorer. I don't think it's really close. Plummer filled part of a need left by AM departure but AM AM was a top level recruit and the s a much better player overall. We would've been better with a healthy AM last year as a team without a doubt.

Adam Miller is looking like the guy we thought we were getting a few years ago. He’s looking healthy and playing really well tonight.
I will wait an see what he does against a good P5 school before making my judgement ie starting 28 Dec against Arkansas.

The important thing is we have not missed a step despite Adam, Pods, and Andre transferring out.

Brad reloads

Adam leaves Plummer steps in, then TSJ
Pods leaves and Sencire/Jayden step in
Andre leaves and Skyy steps in

We are an unstoppable machine!
