I'm sure we would be a bit better if Curbelo was here, but man, its kind of refreshing to not have to deal with that roller coaster this year.
Really interested to watch him against Iowa State this Sunday. I for one think the concussion had a lot more impact on him than we understand.I'm sure we would be a bit better if Curbelo was here, but man, its kind of refreshing to not have to deal with that roller coaster this year.
In my 20+ years of following the team, we haven't really seen high impact players transfer away from the program. In the olden days, when a player transfered, they would leave for a smaller program because they were buried on the bench at Illinois (or occasionally because of a coaching change). We had no real emotional connection to them. Contrast that to today and we have three former starters playing for other P5 schools.Interesting how much traffic this thread gets when we always had defections but never a thread for their post Illini lives.
I guess the portal is part of it, but maybe some remorse on some of the went away, got away and got sent away the last two years ?
Nice work, much appreciated. With November ending, thought it might be interesting to check in on the former Illini players who are still currently playing but for othe schools. Just using the list OP had along with the those mentioned early on in thread.

Illini would not be as good with Curbelo because he had to have the ball in his hands too much. The ball movement is much better with this group. I wouldn't trade Epps or Clark even up for himI'm sure we would be a bit better if Curbelo was here, but man, its kind of refreshing to not have to deal with that roller coaster this year.
I think if we only had one of Skyy or Jaden the loss of Andre would have been huge. Luckily Brad and co. have us rolling with recruiting.Illini would not be as good with Curbelo because he had to have the ball in his hands too much. The ball movement is much better with this group. How often do 2 freshman pgs on the same team immediately hit the ground running at the NCAA level? Phenomenal job scouting and recruiting by our staff, and a little dash of good luck, make Belo look expendable, but it very easily could've gone another way.I think if we only had one of Skyy or Jaden the loss of Andre would have been huge. As much potential as I truly believe Belo still has, and that's a @#$& lot, I can't disagree with that. The highs may have been higher but the lows could have been really low. Both freshmen have been very, almost surprisingly, steady and with the rest of this roster, that's really all we need.Illini would not be as good with Curbelo because he had to have the ball in his hands too much. Tevian Jones in what has to be his 30th year in college is killing it.With November ending, thought it might be interesting to check in on the former Illini players who are still currently playing but for othe schools. Just using the list OP had along with the those mentioned early on in thread.

It is still early but so far an incredible mix of scouting/coaching with some luck mixed in for this to have worked as well as it did. Skyy n Epps show poise/control beyond their years and as important very willing/competent defenders. How often do 2 freshman pgs on the same team immediately hit the ground running at the NCAA level? I dont see how any Illini fan doesn't love Andre Curbelo and wish him the best always. It will be funny when Curbelo has a frustrating game this season...the haters will come out.....he doesn't play for us anymore....good luck for his future...
Always except for when he plays the Illini.I dont see how any Illini fan doesn't love Andre Curbelo and wish him the best always.

I'm not following Boswell at all. But I do keep an eye on Jaden Schutt getting 7 mpg and only seeing the floor in 3 games so far.No kidding. Just happened to notice Kylan Boswell over at ARI averaging 1.7 pts on 23% shooting in 12 mpg. In case we want get into how much more competition there is at G at ARI, I took a quick look and he's playing behind Kriisa and a couple xfers (Ramey who was 4th scoring option for TEX last year and Henderson who played at Campbell U).
ESPN lists him as a senior. He's playing his third season with Southern Utah after 2 with the Illini.Tevian Jones in what has to be his 30th year in college is killing it.
I think a lot of Boswells struggles are due to having a foot injury all summer and zero practice with team before season started. No kidding. I'll take a WAG - Schutt ends up finishing his career at Northwestern.I'm not following Boswell at all. But I do keep an eye on Jaden Schutt getting 7 mpg and only seeing the floor in 3 games so far.
Should have stayed home Jaden, we could certainly use a shooter. I'm still willing to welcome him in if he decides he actually wants to play in his college basketball career.
I love this staff and have no doubt that they went the way they did with Tev for good reasons, but man. He is the one guy I dream on. He really gave us something we didn't have a lot of before Shannon and RJ got here.ESPN lists him as a senior. He's playing his third season with Southern Utah after 2 with the Illini.

After seeing the leap that Bates has made from year 1 to 2, I am wondering if any of these guys should make that jump to reclassify. No kidding.
