Purdue definitely looking like a number one seed today

Just not our day. We are missing a lot of good looks that we have gotten and Purdue can't miss. Newman averages 5 a game and has 15 at half. Not the end of the world, just play hard in the second half and get ready for the postseason
Seems like almost every team we’ve played this year some random guy always have a career game .

We badly need to recruit a 6-4 to 6-5 PG with real PG skills
A transfer with experience. I thought we were this year but we didn’t. One thing that I doubt would happen is a transfer leaving a few weeks into the season. It really suck both for Epps and our squad Epps went down. We have no PG much less an experienced one for a road game like one at Mackey. I’d bet my beach house we have a transfer PG this off season

Our defense is bad and has been all year
We're #27 in defensive efficiency and #22 in effective FG%, so it's pretty tough to agree that our defense has been bad all year.

It is bad today, though.

The defense always looks completely inept when there are so many turnovers leading to transition points. It was actually competitive until Edey went out. After that, it appeared the Illini got trapped in quicksand.

Road B1G games are very much based on momentum, and instead of getting patient looks, the team got quick and sloppy with a plethora of turnovers after Purdue started getting on a roll. It happens with a team that does not have a true PG playing.

I look for a solid second half, the outcome really does not matter to me...I want the team to show the heart that they played with against NW.

As for Purdue, they are a very solid team that plays physical. They can go deep in the tourney, unless they get a reffing crew that calls the game tightly.

This is just poor effort and execution. This is what happens when you play aloof. We are not locked in at all. We are playing rattled and we are not focused on anything to be honest. We have consistently lost our man defensively, leading to easy wide open shots. We aren't even close to aware on offense, simply turning the ball over on silly actions. Purdue is just playing great defense with intensity and focus. Offensively it's like shoot around for them. These guys are so open they have time to look around as if saying, "do you want to come contest this wide open shot or nawwww?" This play is not everyday guy culture. Not Illinois culture. We have to play with a chip on our shoulders and with pride! I'm looking for that in the second half. It's time for the coaching to kick in. Maybe we need to be flat out embarrassed severely to wake up and compete. No way we should keep digging holes like this in the first halves of games with the two seniors we have on this team. TSJ needs to step up and lead, and so does Mayer. The rest of the team needs to play as hard as they can on both ends of the floor and give maximum effort. This game may be over already if this continues. But I certainly hope these guys fight and play like they are capable of. It may be too much to conquer against a team of this caliber, but we have to focus on getting right for the tournaments now! This half in my opinion will show what this teams character is. Will they fight or fold? I believe they'll fight! Attack, attack, attack, the rim!

Knowing MM, he probably stayed up all night playing video games and drinking monster. Sleepwalking out there.

Well , I was gonna fix some lunch here at the half , but somehow I've lost my appetite...............Meds have kicked in so I am NOT anxious , just pissed off with our slow start (usual start) , then happy with our comeback to within 3 at 23-20..........
Purdont goes on a 24-6 run to end the half...

Aboot the foul called on Ty Rodgers ......looks to me like all ball and not even a bump with his body on newman........anticipated call by szxerc#$%&()...........................

TSJ got embarrassed with his lack of ball handling skills......one steal was a kicked ball by newman , but hey , it's senior day so anything goes today for the boilers....................

Sincere and Rodgers have to be in and stay in for the entire second half to even make it respectable...........We do have some miracle comebacks but I feel that might be to high of a mountain to climb......just like edey is.....BB in his hand looks like a nerf ball..........

Anyway , it's beautiful day here in Paducah and I'm gonna sit outside this afternoon and smell the fresh air......Then start watching all the B$G BB games I am recording .........Sounds like a plan , eh ??????

One thing I can appreciate about this team is they quickly let me know how they’re going to play so I can get a jumpstart on some weekend projects

Purdue without Edey is a collection of role players featuring two freshmen guards. We just got absolutely smoked by that group of players and it is difficult to understand.

Now, before we all think I'm just being negative here. It was 25-20 when Hawkins went out with his 2nd foul. Purdue went on a 22-6 run with Hawkins on the bench. That's how much Coleman Hawkins means to this team. If we'd happen lose him... wow.

The lack of a true PG who understands the flow of the game and can slow things down and set up an offense is a massive, massive problem. As it had been all year, frankly.

But today seems like as soon as they get a bucket, we rush the ball down and try to get that bucket back as fast as possible instead if slowing it down, setting an offense and attempting to take the crowd out of it.

Sigh...I got to retire from these threads. This is a flawed team that can beat or get beat by anyone. Too much negativity and doomsday people after a bad showings on here. Somebody mentioned that we'll have to wait 20 years for good pg play? What? Skyy left. Jayden is out and sencire needs seasoning. I'm out lol.

If nothing else, this season reinforces that December games mean virtually nothing.
Not true. The November/December games for Illini are a major reason that the team is safely in the tourney.

They mean nothing from a standpoint of how good the team is today, but it is quite important for making the Dance. Take out UCLA and Texas games, and this team is likely on wrong side of bubble/last 4 in territory.

Coleman being out isn’t why we gave up 6 straight makes
