The problem with trying to prepare for WVU is that we're practicing against ourselves. We dont have 2 guys quick and aggressive enough to simulate the WVU press much less a whole team.

Well at least we have another opportunity to play a top 25 team tomorrow. FSU is much more beatable IMO. Also, we won't be playing a team nearly as aggressive and as tough as WVU all season, closest is VCU but hopefully this piss poor performance will help us against them. Groce has not prepared us one bit for this game and it's embarrassing. We could realistily go 7-6 in non conference this year guys

unfortunately for JG, his loyalty to his coaching staff and hesitancy to play talent over experience may end up costing him his job.

It's the talent level and system. Where is AJ, DJ, and Finke. They should be to the point where they can play in our system (whatever system that is)

I'd rather our players learn one position well. Instead of 3 positions poorly. :(

In a coaching clinic Huggins said the base of their press is forcing people to dribble left. Most of our turnovers have been the result of dribbling left first. When we have passed the ball into the left coffin corner, we've brought it back to the middle, but with a right hand dribble, and less turnovers have come that way.

Sorry, not buying that excuse. We have athletes and some are quick. We just keep making bad passes against this press, not lack of athletes or quickness.

I wouldn't exactly call Abrams or Tate quick. Yes, they've been making terrible decisions as well, but the lack of athleticism hurts.

Sitting behind the Illini bench. At the end of the half they looked like the only thing in the world they wanted was to get off of the court. Not angry (except TA), just beat.

I have been pro J Grove all the way, but if he can't get this Senior led team to execute then we have a huge problem. Winthrop had a guy pull crap out of his rear, but we were still up 10 late in the game & didn't execute. W Virg is a talented team but we keep doing the same thing everytime. We have guys getting double & tripled teamed & the can't pass out of it. Two or three passes out of a double team should be a wide open shot or dunk!

It's early in the season so there is plenty of time to get this team to gel, but if he can't make it happen with this group he never will. I'm ok if we lose because we play a better team or someone goes off & has a night. I'm not ok if we lose because we don't execute, don't pass the ball, don't move on offense, & don't play defense.

Wv could play four on five and still be working us.

We are bad at basics
We don't have a plan
The hill hype was over blown
Tate has never been and never will be a Good PG
I feel for TJL, he has to know he's a better option and has to sit on the bench watching this train wreck.

We can't break the press hahaha, I feel like I'm being punished for being an Illinois fan.

A loss to Winthrop isn't that bad. A loss to a top 20 team on a neutral court CERTAINLY isn't. But the WAY we've played these last two games is enough for me.

We need a coaching change.

Illinois is a top 20 basketball program historically. Accepting losses to top 20 teams shows how much this program has fallen under Groce. He needs to go!!!

I've been watching the Illini for a long time (please excuse the old mannish intro), and you get a "feeling" about coaches. I wish I could say that I have a good feeling about Groce, but I don't. Great guy, but this type of game is consistent with his tenure.

I'll hold out hope for a better second half, but the lack of response after the home loss is disheartening.

Nice pickup.

Forget about tomorrow, and put it all out on the line in the 2nd half!

I really wish we would have started in the zone and 2-2-1 pressed them on makes.

Honest question. Has anyone spoke up to call folks out to light a fire? Players or coaches?
