Dusty May and Michigan have given everyone the Maize and Blue print for winning a national title.
Buy it!!!

I hate that this is where we have gotten to in college basketball.

On the bright side, of the 4 brackets I made, I got all 4 of the Final 4 right in one of them. That happened to be the bracket I had Michigan winning. I had them beating the beloved in the championship though not UConn. Ended up in the top 99.3%, which was good for 196,487th place. There are a crapton of brackets submitted.

I understand not wanting to actively root for Hurley and UConn, but I don't understand how any Illinois fan in their right mind could have been rooting for Michigan.

A Big Ten team hadn't won a title since 2000? Great! If it's not Illinois winning, why would I want to see anyone else in the Big Ten win a title?

If it's something lower stakes like winning more bowl games than the SEC or having the most teams in the tournament, fine. But when it comes to championship time, I wish Big Ten teams nothing but the worst.

This is pretty incredible:

Give it up to the Big 10. First time since 1960 that the conference wins the national title in football and men’s basketball in the same academic year. 66 years….

Got news for Cheatigan fans. Not a single soul on earthed who follows college hoops was shocked that they won. They simply had the best team money could buy (no knock to them or anyone, just today's college game) and a good coach. The only people who were shocked were those unfortunates who are deaf and blind or have no interest in watching the college game.

I do give them some credit for winning with their C- game though.

Pretty good shots on One Shining Moment. What a great season. We got the shots in our last game...they just didn't fall

Playing these important games in a football stadium is dumb. But $$$$$$....

Proud to root Illini, the first season of my life without my Dad. They made it a good one. Let's keep it up!

Decent One Shining Moment exposure. I think we got more visibility than Arizona. Wish I could have seen more basketball from us on there. But we got Keaton looking tough, Super Soaker Brad, dancing jig Z, and the Z dunk. Not bad. Let’s get the final clips in next year’s edition.

I just want him out of Michigan.
I assume Morez is going pro. Michigan is bringing in Quinn Costello next year, a top 6'9" power forward so I assume May told him Morez won't be around. May though will have a roster next year of I believe five 4 & 5 * guards. Should be interesting how May keeps everyone happy.

Not trying to convince anyone, but my Fandom starts with Illinois, and basically radiates outward geographically through the traditional Big10. I understand the contrary view where people feel like we're competing for limited resources- in some sense with recruits, we are, or at least, we were- and can't support a fellow Big10 team. I just feel the proverbial rising Big10 tide lifts all boats in terms of preseason rankings and media sentiment, which isn't nothing.

Edit: should mention this is solely a non-con and post-seson sentiment

I don't understand any Illini fan in their right mind wanting Hurley and UConn to win. Two teams I will never want to win are UConn and Duke ... never.

I've never exactly understood "hating" a team, unless them winning does your team harm (like for example, we needed Wisconsin to lose to Nebby back in 2022). Just hate them for the sake of it -- I know I'm in the minority, but it's never applied to me.

That said, I DO believe who you root for should depend on what benefits your team. In this case, Michigan winning it all no doubt helps the perception of the conference, which in turn helps Illinois. However, there could be a slight argument that this might lend Michigan to leap us in recruiting efforts.

All in all, it is what it is. I'm more than satisfied with a F4 birth... regardless of who wins it and who we lose to.
