When was the last time Arsenal finished above Spurs. Asking for a friend...

i'm tempted to counter with tottenham's lack of silverware but if i do that, then they would probably go and win the league cup.

fandom is a hard thing. sometimes you're up and sometimes you're down. arsenal has certainly been down for awhile but gotta keep hope that we'll be back someday (as long as we don't hire jose)

and they penalized marseille for refusing to return to the pitch. i expect that will get overturned once they sort out the disciplinary action.

CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers this upcoming week. Being able to watch the away matches for the USMNT is going to be a lot easier now. They won't air on beIN Sports anymore as CBS won the English-language rights to air all the CONCACAF qualifier matches (except of course USMNT home matches). Only caveat to all this is many of the matches, including U.S. matches, will air on Paramount+. Now if you're a big soccer fanatic, this might not be an issue as they have the rights to several soccer leagues from around the world including Serie A as well as the top leagues in Argentina, Brazil, and Australia so it may be worth it to subscribe to the service.

Here's what the schedule looks like for the first round of qualifiers that begin next week:
-September 2nd, 9:05 PM CT, CBS Sports Network/Paramount+: El Salvador vs. U.S.
-September 5th, 7:00 PM CT, FS1: U.S. vs. Canada
-September 8th, 9:05 PM CT, Paramount+: Honduras vs. U.S.

La Liga side Mallorca in talks with Schalke 04 to acquire Matthew Hoppe on a permanent transfer of around $3.5 million. Mallorca is owned by Phoenix Suns owner Robert Sarver and also has Steve Nash and Stuart Holden holding minority stakes in the club.

Pulisic and Steffen out for tomorrow's match at El Salvador. Pulisic still isn't up to fitness yet after his recent covid diagnosis. Steffen is dealing with back spasms. No word yet on who will replace Pulisic in the starting XI. Matt Turner will start in place of Steffen.

Full credit to El Salvador: they gave it their all and played pretty close to their ceiling. That said, disjointed play from the US. Not a disaster, but disappointing.

Certainly was a raucous crowd. The fencing and corner riot shields added a certain prison yard feel which was added to by the flying debris and green laser pointers. US was fortunate to get out of there intact, the point was a bonus.

Two World Cup qualifier matches that were to be held today were either halted or not held but for entirely different reasons:

-Brazil-Argentina match was halted shortly after kickoff after Brazilian health officials objected to the participation of three Argentine players who they said broke quarantine rules: https://www.espn.com/soccer/brazil-...match-halted-after-health-officials-intervene
-Morocco-Guinea match, which was set to be held in the Guinea capital of Conakry, has been postponed because of a coup d'etat in Guinea: https://www.espn.com/soccer/fifa-wo...-qualifier-postponed-after-conakry-coup-detat

In the case of the Brazil-Argentina match, the 3 players involved (along with a 4th) play in the Premier League. Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez of Aston Villa and Giovani Lo Celso and Cristiano Romero of Spurs.

Zack Steffen has tested positive for covid and will not travel to Honduras for the USMNT qualifier on Wednesday. He had already been ruled out of tonight's match against Canada with back spasms.
