So if I'm reading this correctly, Harbaugh got four games for being a jackass? That's...marvelous.

They ought to be ashamed of themselves with that non-con schedule, good lord

With Penn State and Ohio State, that's probably enough meat on it's own. If they go 1-1, I could see them being the odd man out in a crowd of 1 loss teams. Last time it will be 4 teams, but they knew that when they wrote the schedule. Won't hurt that recent performance and perception are good (although we know the committee is not supposed to look at the brand name or worry about the tv ratings).

It shouldn't be.

Basketball has reached a good place where scheduling non-conference games fans want to see is significantly and unambiguously rewarded by the committee. That's good for the sport. Football needs to find its way in that direction.

Anyway, policies, systems, blah blah blah, it's important stuff, but I also meant it the way I said it: they should be embarrassed. That is cowardly scheduling.

That will never happen as long as the standard for the playoffs is 0 to 1 loss, maybe if you're lucky 2 losses, but only if you've been dominant in every other game.

Well, for better or worse (spoiler, for much, much worse), those aren't the standards starting in 2024 with the 12 team playoff.

I think it comes down to automatic berth in playoffs. If you win your conference, you are in. Then can schedule better teams outside of conference; reward is high if you win or close loss and don’t win conference.

What is the scUMeist thing scUM has done? Recently Howard has a couple ie getting in a fight in a handshake line, COVID not playing to win a conference championship. They’re football running up the score instead of taking a knee at end of games. Going into the 90s you had the fab 5 getting paid.

I’m not sure anything scUM does can be called “distinguished.”
adjective
  1. made conspicuous by excellence; noted; eminent; famous: a distinguished scholar.
  2. having an air of distinction, dignity, or eminence: a distinguished old gentleman.

Synonyms include: reputable, remarkable, dignified, esteemed.
Antonyms include: infamous, unremarkable, undignified, unesteemed, unrespected. I would say that the antonyms fit scUM much better.

I don't know what any of you are talking about.

The BestPeople(TM) have long assured me that the Michigan Man is superior in intellect, character, and physical vitality to all of his pedestrian Big Ten brethren, and on par if not exceeding the most elevated of boarding-school-going, Ivy League legacy-admits (excluding the utter embarrassment that is Cornell, with its-- horrors-- agriculture school!!), and Stanford alums.

The institution of the University of Michigan itself is beyond reproach in all aspects of its operations, the campus is the most beautiful in the nation, and the glorified bowl-sunk-into-the-ground-on-steroids is the most majestic of college football stadiums in the land (owing, of course, to its understated, tasteful simplicity), an austere, ambrosial amalgamation of gridiron godliness. A veritable Temple of Delphi in which Coach Harbaugh is the irreproachable Oracle. In fact, I'm stunned that the Big Ten requires Michigan to play road games, let alone adhere to arcane recruiting rules. The impertinence!

Michigan bestrides the Midwest, nay the globe, as a Colossus, lord of the manor deigning to drop crumbs along its periphery for the gleaning serfs eking out subsistence on the margins. It's alumni are all at least three standard deviations above-average, good-looking, of sparkling intelligence, witty, urbane, refined, having impeccable taste, brave and charismatic.

Any suggestion to the contrary is not simply boorish, and saturated in ignorance, but borders on blasphemy.

Be so chastened, my unwashed Illini brothers and sisters, as we repair to our mud hovels to await the new football season soon upon us with the livestock that inhabit our dwellings.
