Not sure what kind of team they will have this year, but this will no doubt be a physical battle, and a good test for our team. I predict many Illini fans will be screaming at the television for foul calls.

West Virginia is a tough match up. Tracy just a couple games back in, TJL only playing a handful of games to that point and Tate. Early in the season overall. Gonna need a lot of ball handling help in that one. Malcolm, JCL, maybe even DJ, AJ and Finke need to be ready.

As a side note, I saw Huggins in a coaches clinic in May. Said they cut the court into 8 boxes and the base of their press is forcing people to pass left and dribble left to those boxes. Amazing how successful they've been in high major D1 basketball with forcing left as their base philosophy. Obviously they've also had athletes to run the system as well...

any info on whether we are planning to fill our 13th scholarship for this year, 5th year transfer or otherwise?

A dose of pre-season practice hype -- Kipper is guarding Malcolm regularly in scrimmages/drills and making him work. Apparently they've been having some good battles. Sounding like he's gonna be one of our better defenders :thumb:

Hype free comment. D is certainly the path to playing time for Kipper this year. Sounds like he's embraced it. And making Malcolm work is all good. Thanks for the news and keep it coming.

Thanks to NG. It's a good piece. Lots of good comments from his old high school coach on his competitiveness and athleticism. Finke chiming in on his improved shooting is definitely encouraging as well. I know some posters mentioned his shooting needed work.

But as Finke phrased it, "His shot is really improving" meaning he didn't have one to start with, and "he'll be a good player for us down the road" meaning, he may not be there yet.

All of that may be what we were expecting, but I know some fans are hoping Kipper will be a secret weapon this season, and it sounds like he'll need to work up to it for a while yet.

And yes, I can tell all that from a few quotes in the paper.

Off topic but, according to that article, this year the 27th Kendall Gill Golf Outing is being held. That means it would have started in 1990, right? Wasn't Gill still a student then? Did he start that tournament the same summer he signed with the Hornets? If so, kudos to him (one of my all time favorite Illini)!

That would be the same year he was drafted.

I logged on to my U of I athletics ticket account and I noticed that my men's basketball season tickets are listed for purchase. I have seats at mid-court in the 200 section and the seats are $490 each.

That's good news. In his interview, Kip says that he's hanging is hat on D this year.

I wonder how many people might want to change their Kipper Nichols MPG for next year??

I think the only way that changes for most people on here is if he gets the waiver to play right away. If he can't play until midseason, it COULD be hard to crack the rotation much. That is where most people's prediction comes from, imo.
