Honestly, any chance of Thorne with the League?

Current course and speed, no. He really has to improve in the areas of athleticism and quickness that are hard to improve at this stage in someone's career. His medical history may also be a deterrent. Mike is more "old style" player than the typical "mobile center" of the NBA. His game is better suited for the European leagues IMO, maybe not Euroleague, but he should be able to find employment in some decent (mid-level) European leagues.

You'd think someone with his size alone would at least get an invite to someones camp just to see if he is someone who can take to coaching. A D-league look would probably be his starting point maybe? Certainly overseas somewhere.

If you mean chance as actually experiencing some success in the league then I would probably agree. He'll likely get a chance to show what's he got in summer league though. From there, who knows, but a guy with his size and rebounding will always have at least that chance.

I mean chances of actually making the league, a team roster. Having further success while in the league is a totally different ballgame. I do not mean summer league invites, there is a huge difference between summer league invites and actually making a roster.

Talking about ex-illini trying to make a roster, Brandon Paul is vying to make the Sixers roster.

Man, Thorne is one big dude. Can't wait to see how many boards he can pull down this year.

Another one that has come a long way and hasn't even played a minute yet.:)

European League? Sure. The NBA is a possibility if we have a successful season and he shows that he can be a productive big man especially against good competition. As of right now, he's not on anyone's radar as a potential draft pick. His age will also work against him which drives me crazy. The NBA is a league where you can play into your mid 30's, but teams seem to think that guys in their early 20's won't continue to grow and get better.

Greg Stiemsma has found himself roster spots over the years by essentially setting solid picks. Thorne has a shot.

Never say never, but I agree with most of what's been said. With his size and rebounding, he'll almost certainly get a look, but he'll have to be more physical IMO to get a serious look. I don't think it's out of the question, but I'd put him on the wrong side of the bubble from when I last saw him play.

Great to see the team get bigger, the last two years I have noticed that even mid-majors in the tourney appeared to have more physically developed player than ours.
