For all of the people who have both Black and Finke starting, who is going to fill out the minutes at the high post and guard the opposing 5 when Finke needs a break? I seriously doubt any of the freshmen will be ready for more than 5 minutes a game until at least the mid-way of the conference schedule.

Maybe they'll leave Black out there at the 5 and put Kip at the 4? Then put Ebo in for a few minutes and by that point Finke will be more than rested to come back in.

Just saw a bunch of tweets from Illini basketball about the Illinois coaches clinic. Looked like Underwood was there talking about Spread. I wonder what the explosion of the spread will look like at the high school level. After he did it in Texas I swear we played another spread team once every few games.

Start
Lucas
Smith
Alstork
Black
Finke

Before midpoint - Northwestern game
Smith - 6'5
Alstork 6'5
Black - 6'7
Nichols - 6'7
Finke - 6'10

That is a big line-up with (4) bonfire scoring threats...

Lucas is the point guard. Team leader, top defender and best passer.

I think the 2 biggest positive surprises (not best players) this year would be Frazier and Ebo in that order.

Nobody is guarantee a starting PG for the entire year. We no longer have the same coach who will stubbornly start players because he wants to reward them for being loyal, or being an upperclassman, or whatever. That said, I think TJL will perform on a high level and make it pretty difficult for any of our other PG's to take his spot.

Come on, buddy, you gotta flesh out your posts a little more than that. :p

What's really going to blow your mind is what happens when we don't have a point guard at all.

Can't believe there's no discussion on this. Is he really a second round NBA talent?

I guess it depends on which evaluation service you believe..."on some boards I was a second-round pick and on some undrafted."

Interesting article. Lots of good tidbits.

Alstork wasn't a legitimate draft target after last season. I can't find him on any mock draft board from before the draft.

Alstork is a volume shooter, probably most similar to Ray Rice from recent Illini. Given the loss of Malcolm, there are plenty of shots available this season. I expect Alstork to be streaky at this level. He'll go for 25 one night, then go 2-12 on another. How much we rely on him will be determined by how the Freshmen develop.

It looks like we will go 10 deep tops and 4 of them are point guards... pretty sure there won't be much mind blowing going on in that regard.

... unless you think Underwood will play all 4 bigs together, is that what this positionless nonsense means?

I agree with who said it will be hard to get Lucas off the floor.

This has to mentioned every year. It is extremely unlikely that we will go 10 deep. We like to think that all of the team will play well and make it impossible to keep anyone on the bench, but that almost never happens. By the time we get into February, BU will most likely have 7, 8, or at most 9 players that he thinks need to be in the game as much as possible.

I totally agree... my point was thats all the players we have to choose from and 4 of them are or were in HS point guards, so I don't see how anyone thinks they are going to send a team out on the floor very often at all without any of those ballhandlers.

Okay if this has been said before I apologize but I had no idea Damonte Williams was the son of former great Illini Frank Williams. This guy

About time you came out from under that rock!

Just kidding. Yes, it's true. If he has any of his ol' mans game he'll do well here.

Hey, not everybody lives and breathes Illinois Loyalty, like way too many of us do! :D

Was on the fighting illini official site and just checking out the roster seeing if it had been updated and saw that. Haha, I imagine that was already said on here when he committed. But hey uhh I receive news really late where I am. :)

Just kidding I live in Urbana.
