Nice no cupcakes b4 Xmas, Mildcats in Chicago, Terraps at home. That will be a good gauge before we do Bragging rights game :).

Man that's a tough way to start the season.... Also I feel like our schedule is almost always easier the second half of the conference schedule.

Can someone remind me why we're playing to B1G games a month before all the others start?

Well this new schedule certainly works completely against young, inexperienced teams. May not have any all that much chemistry by the time December rolls around, which means we may be down in the hole 2 games in conference before Braggin' Rights takes place. Just stupid scheduling, stupid B1G Tournament.

NW and Maryland are top half B1G teams, I'm actually happy we will get tested early. Gives us time to analyze weaknesses against actually good teams, maybe even try out a few changes in non con games.

I would rather drop two to them than Rutgers/OSU

It'll be a strange year having those early BIG games. as weak as our non-conf is, maybe it will be good to have a couple tougher games in Dec. though.

Is this actually the reason why? If so, they did a good job of covering it up (as they should've this is an absolutely stupid reason to alter the schedule).

I had heard it was because they wanted to tournament done and over before selection sunday to give the committee more time to review a teams full season including BTT (yes I know the committee says they dont pay attention to post season tournament success heavily, but I swear this was the B1G's explanation to moving two game pre christmas.)

I can't believe the lengths Delaney has gone to in order to get the B1G Tourney into a particular facility. Conference tourney timed up with mid-majors, long gap between conference and NCAA Tourney, awkward start to conference season. I really don't get it. It is pretty frustrating, honestly. [emoji55]

Since there is a finite number of games in a season, and basically a set number of wins that it takes to get into the tournament (~20 or 21), IMO no games should ever be considered "throw away" or "experimental" games. I want my team to have the best possible chance of getting wins, no matter when or who against.

Assuming that young/inexperienced teams get better faster than already experienced teams get better (don't mistake for being better than experienced teams in a short time frame), I'd personally rather have a 70% of beating Rutgers in Dec. and a 50% of beating NW in March than a 40% of beating NW in Dec. than an 80% chance of beating Rutgers in March. Hopefully my reasoning makes sense.

It was scheduling at the Garden, way I understood it. Even if Dulaney gave as a reason, for NCAA committee, makes no sense for us to play in NYC. Irregardless, we take the schedule as it is and we will see what kind of team we have. With the rest of the schedule as is, a spilit works, and 2 wins b4 Xmas would be HoHoHo. :thumb::illinois:

And what is the measure of success? How do we know if all these machinations were worth it? If we somehow sell B1G Network to 10,000 more homes in Brooklyn and Queens?

I'm going to type this without taking time to think about it (good advice for any message board poster, right? :D) so that I get my "raw emotions" about this strange schedule:

1) What a brutal start. At Minnesota, at Michigan, Iowa at home, at Nebraska, at Wisconsin, vs. Michigan State, vs. Indiana?? Yikes.

2) December B1G games are stupid, but I'll be so ready for "big time" basketball by then that I'll probably be fine with it, LOL.

3) The Iowa game in Champaign isn't on a weekend? :(:(:(:(

4) ONE Saturday game?! Do they not know there are tons of us 20-somethings out there who love to go day drink for some Saturday college basketball?? Disgraceful.

5) I honestly get moving things up for MSG (though I definitely don't approve...), but why switch the days of the week?! Monday?? So lame.

6) Here's my guess at the season now:

W vs. Southern
W vs. Tennessee-Martin
W vs. DePaul
W vs. Marshall
W vs. Augustana
W vs. NC Central
W at Wake Forest
W vs. Northwestern (Rosemont, IL) ... yes, this is a neutral site game.
L vs. Maryland
W vs. Austin Peay
L at UNLV
W vs. Longwood
W vs. New Mexico State (Chicago, IL)
W vs. Missouri (St. Louis, MO)
W vs. Grand Canyon
L at Minnesota
L at Michigan
W vs. Iowa
W at Nebraska
L at Wisconsin
L vs. Michigan State
L vs. Indiana
W vs. Rutgers
W at Ohio State
W vs. Wisconsin
W vs. Penn State
L at Indiana
W vs. Nebraska
L at Michigan State
W vs. Purdue
W at Rutgers

22-9 (10-8) going into the BTT. :cool::chief:

We start with 5 road games in our first 7. Im taking this as a positive. Most are over break without students. When we have most of our home games our students will be back. Our schedule lines up for us to make a run late if we gel.

You think we'll lose to Indiana twice? They were bottom 4 in the big ten last year and lost James Blackmon Jr., OG Anunoby and Thomas Bryant. I think they're bottom 5 in big ten again.

Yeah, I'm thinking 21-22 wins going into the BTT. Hopefully enough of those are quality wins and then we win a game or two in the BTT to be pretty assured of a reasonable Tourney seed. Should be fun. :)

I don't know - I have faith, but it's a funky schedule for a young team. I'm thinking 20-11 and 9-9...but with enough quality wins to get us in
