Going to miss that game at PSU, however. We've gone to the Bryce Center for the past several years...where we've lost...and I'd like to see revenge.

I assume this a one time thing, that is, just this one season, not a permanent thing? At least as far as we know.

Re BTT in DC or MSG I hope Delany and big ten has given their one time pandering to Maryland and Rutgers and moves it back to Chicago (my preference) and/or Indianapolis.

Especially if it means moving the tourney up one week.

Doesn't make any difference if it's a hard or easy schedule, just play ball, we're ready to see this team and new coaching staff.

Interesting that the game against NW is at the Allstate Arena, it will likely be 2 or 3 to 1 Illini fans, unless NW controls the tickets.

One Saturday big ten home game and it looks like only 2 in Champaign all season is pretty disappointing . I usually go to all the Christmas break games so I hate to only have 1 but it is nice to have the students only miss 1 game

This video gives me hope that he won't be a JCL like player. It's a highlight video so obviously take it with a grain of salt, but he shows the ability to score at all 3 levels.

Compare and contrast... I like JCL and wish him all the best, but they are different skill sets.

You think we'll lose to Indiana twice? They were bottom 4 in the big ten last year and lost James Blackmon Jr., OG Anunoby and Thomas Bryant. I think they're bottom 5 in big ten again.

I had to pick some "flukes," as there almost always are some, right? These are predictions of what I think will happen, after all. :)

Considering they really can't even do that very well when we play in Evanston, I think that place will be orange as hell, especially being the conference opener. A post on the NU board that was analyzing their schedule called it "a neutral court at best vs. Illinois.":chief:

I'm listening....

So for any B1G schedule, I start out by counting all the home games as wins, all the road games as losses, and go from there.

So what home games do we think we'll likely lose? I am probably overly optimistic that we can beat both Maryland and IU, but they're not world-beaters. I'll chalk up losses to Michigan State and Wisconsin.

Alright, so the task becomes winning some road games. Fortunately, I think we catch a fairly favorable away schedule, no? If I'm going off the deep end in suggesting we can beat NW at Rosemont, and then Nebraska, Ohio State and Rutgers in their buildings, I'll wear that.

This isn't pandering to MD & Rutgers, this is about growing the DC & NYC markets & the $ he hopes they bring to the conference. ACC played there tournament in Brooklyn this past year, I expect the B1G could have done that and kept the usual weekend, but Delany wanted MSG & NYC. Playing a week early isn't ideal, but this is also why Illinois will take in $51 million in conference money next year and a large part of paying for State Farm /Memorial Stadium upgrades. Sort of sucks, but it is a long term play to expand the brand & just maybe it puts B1G tourney in the solo spotlight the week earlier for additional nationwide TV coverage. So feel good that we are getting paid more for this than MD & Rutgers.

Great post, I absolutely agree.

There are big time conference financial wars taking place, with big time financial gains as a result. It is easy for people to say that they do not want the BTT in NYC or DC, or that they do not want Nebraska or Rutgers in the conference. But at the end, these decisions are about one thing, money.

Spot on! (both posts)

This is a war for global domination (ok, a bit of hyperbole). Risk for sports viewership. We need to expand the footprint to grow the pot. Other factors are secondary. Don't have to agree w/this stance, but, WRT growth, it makes sense.

I already said once and I'll say it again 12-6 in conference play. However, I will also say we finish in that top 5 of the confenernce.

The 12-6 for me comes from us picking up a win at home against either MSU OR IU

AllState seats 17,000 and Welsh-Ryan seats 8,100 so AllState will make tickets much more affordable.

I listened to Loren Tate's latest podcast today. It is basketball focused this week. He studied Illini coaching changes dating back to the 1930's and found that the new coach generally finishes with a comparable record to the final year of the coach he is replacing. Hence a 9-9 conference record would be setting the bar quite high for Underwood this season. The conclusion he reaches is that the talent on the court is generally unchanged from one year to the next. (The "x factor" of the new coach typically does not have much of an impact.)

Hopefully this year will be the exception to the rule

Kind of found an answer to my own question a day later. In a Pantagraph article it says that: "After the league takes its conference tournament east for 2017 and 2018, it returns to the Midwest for four years. Chicago’s United Center will host the event in 2019 and 2021. Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis will host in 2020 and 2022."

I am a Nebraska fan and thinking about coming to Illinois for the Nebraska game and I notice that the state wrestling is that same weekend.. Im sure the schedule wont change or anything but before I book everything I just thought I'd make sure there wont be any problems having the game that Saturday with the wrestling finals going on the same day at same arena. Thanks & Go Big Red
