I just find it funny that he has coached here for one season and people are complaining lol. Obviously people aren’t saying they want Groce to come back but when you have plenty of sports analysts saying this was a top 5 hire.....you need to be patient.

Seriously, rim protector has to be one of the most annoying basketball terms, worse than stretch forward. I like old, tried and true saying, like when you got lemons, make lemonade. If they don't have anyone to protect the rim; then maybe they can use their length, quickness, and depth in the back court to keep the ball away from the rim. Put ball pressure on the point. Jump into the passing lanes on the wings. Deny the entry passe. Create transition offense off long rebounds and turnovers.

Certainly an improvement defensively with Ayo over Mark but believe we will miss TjLs on the ball defense. Believe Kane will be huge improvement over Finke. Rest will be length over experience. If the ball gets into the paint we will struggle.
Yes, we need a rim protector, serviceable 5, blah, blah, blah, hashed, re-hashed ad nauseam.
To say our season is riding on that is just not true. Our coach has said so.

I think the two are pretty distinct. Underwood has created a nightmare for himself, one that could sink the ship before it even really gets to leave the port. In my view we're staring down the worst season in program history, with knock-on consequences from there.
But so long as we can show some progress from the lowly state we currently find ourselves in, I want to stay the course and keep building. I prefer Underwood to the open market, that's for damn sure.
Gun to my head, I would guess this era ends in disaster in 2-3 more years, but I am committed to seeing that through, because that's far, far from a sure thing. There is time left to turn this back in the right direction, and Underwood is a real coach whose gifts will show if he can construct the right staff and the right roster.
So let's go do it. The two dudes in the photo above deserve it.
