We're mathematically closer to #3 Michigan than #5 Iowa on KenPom. Advanced rankings have been incredibly friendly to us.
Illinois has been an incredibly efficient team this year, which is what automatic ratings notice. Their losses have been by 3, 3, 3, 6, and 13 points, and have won 8 games by double digits, playing the 3rd toughest schedule in the nation (behind Penn State and Northwestern, mostly because those two teams have to play Illinois instead of Penn State and Northwestern). We're mathematically closer to #3 Michigan than #5 Iowa on KenPom. I completely agree, and there is room in the NBA still for someone playing his style of game I believe. He just needs to keep working and improving. It's because the change in the NBA. Like you hear every game from the announcers, Kofi plays an old style game. Back in the prime of the NBA, Kofi would have been a top 3 pick. Draft experts also have the possible winner of the NCAA player of the year, Luke Garza, as a mid- to late-second round pick. That is not to say that Garza is doing anything wrong. Same with Kofi. Kofi is playing the game he is supposed to play. He's never going to be a point/stretch forward.
So with Saturday's performance, Ayo has narrowed the gap between himself and both Garza & Butler. He was a much more distant 3rd heading into the weekend.
Next Illini to notch a triple-double.... Andre Curbelo.Following up the Curbelo video posted in the last basketball thread...
There always seems to be a lot of criticism in game threads about Curbelo. Yes, he plays too fast and puts himself in bad spots at times, but he is putting up huge numbers and doing it as a freshman. In B1G play (10 games), he's averaging 5.7 assists per game in less than 23 min/game. That puts his AP40M rate at 10 ast/40 min, which appears to be the best in the B1G. For reference, Ayo's B1G rates are 4.6 APG and AP40M rate is 5.3. In B1G play, Curbelo is averaging 2.3 TO per game, which gives him an average of about 2.5 AST/ TO ratio in conference play. (Ayo's usage is obviously different than Curbelo, but he's our next best assist man because he can open up shots for others because of his playmaking ability.)
My point being, Curbelo is a really special player as a freshman and I don't think fans realize just how good his numbers are.

If so, Ayo came within 3 TOs of a quadruple double yesterday.Do 10 turnovers count??
Could be. He did have 9 pts, 9 assists and 6 rebounds against Minnesota in 22 minutes, so he has the potential.Next Illini to notch a triple-double.... Andre Curbelo.
How good would we be if Timme had come here?
We probably don’t get Kofi then though. How good would we be if Timme had come here?
I give you Andre Drummond....there is still a place in the nba for a rebounder. You dont have to get more than nine minutes out of a great rebounder for him to help out.
Probably not as good as if Liddell had come. How good would we be if Timme had come here?
I'm still salty about that. The single biggest miss in recent recruiting cycles. Add him to this team and we are nearly unbeatable.Probably not as good as if Liddell had come.
Ayo had more than ten turnovers except we recovered three of themDo 10 turnovers count??
Butler is averaging 17 points , 3.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists, how do they come up with the ratings. Ayo's numbers are better. So with Saturday's performance, Ayo has narrowed the gap between himself and both Garza & Butler. He was a much more distant 3rd heading into the weekend.

Before or after the latest Hawkeye defeat?
Seriously we need to get over this. He’s not on the team and will never be. Move onI'm still salty about that. The single biggest miss in recent recruiting cycles. Add him to this team and we are nearly unbeatable.
