So is there a general time/day we should hear about the Big news?

Of course I'm not an insider so that is a WAG

I was talking to a friend a couple weeks after the season ended, and I was telling him that if Curbelo could show that he can consistently hit 3's in game - he virtually becomes un-guardable. Now this may be the orange kool-aid talking, but if he is out behind the line and they play off of him, he could shoot the 3. If they press he just blows around them for a drive. On the drive if they don't double he just does his magic act and scores, but if they do, he just makes some pass that nobody sees coming for the assist. I am really looking forward to watching him play this year.

Then you just call him Steve Nash Jr

Garcia, Payne, and Hawk would give us a formidable front court but very different than with Kofi defensively. Kofi not replaceable defensively.

ehhh… we’d be different defensively, but other dudes help us be better defensively in some ways.
Don’t get me wrong, I’d much prefer us with Kofi.

Trent honestly might be fifth or sixth if we bring Kofi back and add Garcia. And he is perfectly ok with that-he can focus on being the elite stopper he is on the defensive end. We will be deeper and better than last year IMO if we can pull that off (Kofi + Garcia). Cart before horse obviously but it’s hard not to get excited about that possibility.
Trent is going to put up 9-10 ppg. If he’s the fifth or sixth leading scorer, this season should be really interesting!

Show me a team with 3-4 alphas, some dawgs, great depth (and flexibility) and loads of experience and I'll show you a prime contender. Your table awaits, Kofi.

Kofi
Belo
Hutch
Hutch hasn't played a real game since Feb 2019 I have no idea why people are expecting him to come in and dominate .

Belo will have the ball even more so with no Kofi he will likely be the leading scorer . I wouldn't be surprised if we have a ton of 8-10 ppg scorers after him

I’m not sure being the third leading scorer is exactly dominating. And watching the dude in practice....it’s easy to get excited. Fingers crossed he stays healthy tho

If his back is good, he has a legit chance to make The League. That's why people are excited. Plus, they want to see him finally play.

Count me as a Hutch skeptic. I think he'll contribute but not be the special player some seem to envision.

I really think Trent has an outstanding year. I'll be disappointed for him if he doesn't. How many guys have we had that had their numbers drop over their last two years? He took a backseat to some degree to Ayo and Miller. I really hope that with a complete PG next to him that he'll be in a great position to top his freshman and sophomore year numbers.

Would be interesting to know Trent’s shooting %, ppm, etc when he was point man without AC on floor and when he was off the ball with AC on floor. Can we even find those stats?

I dont doubt the talent its just been a long layoff and its just gonna take quite a few real games to get his timing back . Im expecting him to start slow and then have a strong second half of the season.

Illinois official roster says Luke and RJ are both 6'7. Luke definitely looks taller though.

IMHO, timing is not the issue. Hutch must regain self-confidence and perform in front of 15000+ rabid/bloodthirsty/FF starved fans. He can regain timing with practice but the confidence and in-game decisions are only bred by in-game success.

You nailed it. Several of my favorite all-time names in Illini basketball history mentioned above.

And I think you've put a rubber stamp on my observation. I believe that's how far away we are from being in the top 10. Kofi would be the answer --- but I don't expect him back. And without him, we'd need a Nick Weatherspoon/Dave Scholz/Deon Thomas/James Augustine type of offensive threat to get there. Frazier is just a piece of our solid guard rotation--- and all of the others you mentioned in your opening sentence are new to the Illini starting line-up. Expectations have to be low for them.
Thus the question mark...
With what I read about Kofi wanting to work on his passing and mid to deep range from his NBA feedback , while best for him in hoping to reach NBA... is he capable...I am of the ilk he can change the game and do what he does....Rodman did ok with limited offense with right teamates and coaches. With a plethora of 7 foot stringbeans shooting 40% from 3...who is going to stop young Chocolate Thunder Kofi from shooting over 60% down low?
NBA is a copycat league....until there is new copy...

Best case scenario, imo

C. Kofi, Payne, BBV, Lieb
F. Garcia, Hawkins, Goode
W. Hutcherson, Grandison, Melendez
G. Frazier, Williams, Podziemski
G. Curbelo, Plummer

Some fierce battles for playing time.
I am not sure Hutcherson has the footspeed to beat out , DaMonte , Grandison or Hawkins from the vid I seen...If he can this will be a very dynamic team this season.
I am saving the Kofi return dreams till official...and I am not convinced he will be as effective in what he will be trying to empasize, {per his own words} out of the starting gate. With Kofi wanting to work on his distribution, midrange offense and shooting I can easily see roles for BBV and Coleman to do some 4-5 backpicks and high low offense being featured...or at least attempted.
