If this comes to fruition, practice will be far more competitive than most games.
Then you just call him Steve Nash JrI was talking to a friend a couple weeks after the season ended, and I was telling him that if Curbelo could show that he can consistently hit 3's in game - he virtually becomes un-guardable. Now this may be the orange kool-aid talking, but if he is out behind the line and they play off of him, he could shoot the 3. If they press he just blows around them for a drive. On the drive if they don't double he just does his magic act and scores, but if they do, he just makes some pass that nobody sees coming for the assist. I am really looking forward to watching him play this year.
ehhh… we’d be different defensively, but other dudes help us be better defensively in some ways.Garcia, Payne, and Hawk would give us a formidable front court but very different than with Kofi defensively. Kofi not replaceable defensively.
Trent is going to put up 9-10 ppg. If he’s the fifth or sixth leading scorer, this season should be really interesting!Trent honestly might be fifth or sixth if we bring Kofi back and add Garcia. And he is perfectly ok with that-he can focus on being the elite stopper he is on the defensive end. We will be deeper and better than last year IMO if we can pull that off (Kofi + Garcia). Cart before horse obviously but it’s hard not to get excited about that possibility.
Those words by Chester gives me hope that Hutch will be able to finally show Illini Nation what skillset he has......................Chester weighing in:
Hutch hasn't played a real game since Feb 2019 I have no idea why people are expecting him to come in and dominate .Kofi
Belo
Hutch
I’m not sure being the third leading scorer is exactly dominating. And watching the dude in practice....it’s easy to get excited. Fingers crossed he stays healthy thoHutch hasn't played a real game since Feb 2019 I have no idea why people are expecting him to come in and dominate .
Belo will have the ball even more so with no Kofi he will likely be the leading scorer . I wouldn't be surprised if we have a ton of 8-10 ppg scorers after him

Agree. He has all of the tools for a wing in today’s nba. 6’6 with handles and lift and knock down shooting. If his back is good, he has a legit chance to make The League. That's why people are excited. Plus, they want to see him finally play.

Count me as a Hutch skeptic. I think he'll contribute but not be the special player some seem to envision.
Thus the question mark...You nailed it. Several of my favorite all-time names in Illini basketball history mentioned above.
And I think you've put a rubber stamp on my observation. I believe that's how far away we are from being in the top 10. Kofi would be the answer --- but I don't expect him back. And without him, we'd need a Nick Weatherspoon/Dave Scholz/Deon Thomas/James Augustine type of offensive threat to get there. Frazier is just a piece of our solid guard rotation--- and all of the others you mentioned in your opening sentence are new to the Illini starting line-up. Expectations have to be low for them.
I am not sure Hutcherson has the footspeed to beat out , DaMonte , Grandison or Hawkins from the vid I seen...If he can this will be a very dynamic team this season.Best case scenario, imo
C. Kofi, Payne, BBV, Lieb
F. Garcia, Hawkins, Goode
W. Hutcherson, Grandison, Melendez
G. Frazier, Williams, Podziemski
G. Curbelo, Plummer
Some fierce battles for playing time.
The absolute biggest hit if Kofi leaves.Garcia, Payne, and Hawk would give us a formidable front court but very different than with Kofi defensively. Kofi not replaceable defensively.
