I think Williams starts the season at the 3, but if Hutch stays healthy, I expect him to be the starting 3 before long.
Depending on how good of a defender Hutch is, I could see DMW starting to provide defensive/offensive balance between the 1’s and 2’s. Could potentially need DMW’s length and versatility more with the 1’s, while we may potentially need Hutch’s (presumed) offensive punch with the 2’s.

Will be fun to see BU mix and match lineups this year and find a rotation. I actually think our 1-8 should stack up favorably against just about any other team in the country. Good times!

Put me in the “We’ll be better camp.” Ayo is an all-time favorite, deserves a huge part of the credit for putting us back into relevancy with his commitment ALONE and single-handedly won us some games last year … but having a superstar is a blessing and a curse.

There are likely flashes of play from last year’s team that we won’t come close to matching this year and we might not wind up a 1-seed, but I also don’t think we’ll ever have another Loyola-type “totally stunned” loss in such a big situation. They had us totally figured out, and (IMHO) we were stuck between a rock and a hard place. If Brad and Co. go away from our proven, clutch superstar and we lose, they’re idiots and to blame for the loss; we saw them go with the opposite response, and we all saw what happened.

I think this team, while possibly “not quite as good in some ways,” will be much better at adjustments. And that’s essential come March when you go cold.

Thats a tough call. I dont see anyone jumping Jacob at the 4 with Kofi back. When the B10 arrives here's what I see

1-AC,TF, AP
2-TF,AP, Hutch/Freshmen
3-Hutch, DW, Freshmen
4- Jacob. DW, CH/ Payne
5- Kofi, Payne, CH

DW will play 22 -25 minutes a game like each if the last three seasons whether he starts or not. Unfortunately for CH we had 2 of the three guys ahead of him at the 4 return. Has he surpassed them or will he? I doubt it I have no doubts he has and can improve on his so so numbers. However is it reasonable to expect him or anyone to send Jacob to the bench when Jacob shot 53%from the floor, 42% from 3 and 95% from the line? I want Jacob being aggressive & in more not less! Plus Jacob and DMW have experience & were BUs preference last season. Jacob and DMW could improve as well.
The biggest unknown is the new freshman. We have had one or more pop each of the last few years and that plus new transfers seems more likely to impact our line up as much as anything. Besides Kofi coming back of course!

BU doesn’t worry as much about who starts. Grandison and Hawk will both be in the rotation and mins probably determined by matchups. To me they have a solid experienced line up with Belo, Trent, DaMonte, Jacob and Kofi. All of these players have heavy mins. experience and any replacements in that lineup will mean a stronger team. Defensive chemistry may be the difference as shown by who is playing at the end of the game rather than who starts.
To a certain extent I think who starts does matter to BU, because we at times had a tendency to have a poor start and dig ourselves a hole, and I seem to recall BU bemoaning that. My memory may be off here, but wasn't Grandison starting at least to some degree an adjustment made to combat that tendency? Of course total minutes matter more than who starts, but I do think there is a lot of thought being put into who gets the minutes at the beginning and end of games.

One of if not the biggest turning points of last season was inserting Jacob at the 4 ahead of GB. It was when we got hot and the floor seemed to open up for Kofi and slashers with Jacob and DMW shooting well from outside.

At the end if games one thing I am very fired up about is our experienced high percentage FT shooters. Jacob 95% Hutch 89%, AP 86% and Trent 82% . That will be a pick your poison on who to foul at the end of games.

Are we still doing Game 1 lineup projections that exclude Hutch?
Assuming Hutch is as good as advertised, does he start alongside DMW or Grandison (or both or neither)? I think all I'm saying is that I'd be surprised if Grandison is not in the starting lineup. I'm a lot less sure about whether it will be DMW or Hutch there with him (I'm assuming Kofi, Belo and Trent are locks and nobody else is likely to be a day 1 starter).

I think Hutch plays starters minutes or the most time per game of any player at the 3 spot. DW splits time at the 3 & 4 spot for his 22 to 25 minutes a game much like last year with CH and or Payne behind Jacob and DW at the 4. CH can improve on his so so numbers but he still is likely to back up at least those two at the 4 spot based hiw large the gap was between Hawk n those two experienced players. Ihope Hawkins takes off but its as if he played like Brian Cook or something. Jacob although not flashy played great and I expect him to take even larger strides this season as a perimeter scorer with Ayo gone..

Are we talking about subbing a freshman for TRENT Frazier? Or is there another Frazier I don’t know about?
I think the OP is just saying tall opposing guards are going to try shooting over Trent and Curbelo, so BU has to be able to counter that if they are successful.

Joel Goodson

respect my decision™

Plummer too. But, yeah, this. I would imagine that Hutch or DMW would slide to the 2, ahead of the frosh. Great problem to have.

I love that we are able to lose Ayo and Miller and still feel confident that Underwood will have a strong team. Frazier and Williams coming back helps quite a bit, but even without them, I think this team would have been solid. Nice job staff.

I thought that’s what the OP was saying but I can’t imagine any of the freshman guards already being better defenders than Trent is no matter how tall they are. I can’t recall many if any times Trent was removed for defensive purposes last year. Defense is kinda his thing right?

Frazier and Williams raised the floor tremendously. Proven BIG players. The newcomers and progression of the youngsters provide a possibly incredible ceiling.
