There have been games in the past where I believed that the refs were completely out to get Illinois. Last year, I came away with the feeling that the officiating was just grossly incompetent.
C’mon blind people have to make a living.

Yes. You are paranoid and yes people are out to get you.

I am normally not a conspiracy theorist, but it’s hard not to imagine that refs often have an agenda beyond calling a fair game. Whether the agenda is their own or given to them, I just don’t know. They don’t get to the NBA or college games without a reasonably fair degree of competency. To suddenly be incompetent just doesn’t make sense.

They're human beings. Of course they have a bias. Most are able to block out that bias most of the time, but I think there's plenty who don't.

Refs are influenced by stat lines from prior games, by player reps, by opposing coaches demanding that so-and-so's defense is really hook and hold or whatever. If they start looking for that stuff, they're going to see it and they're probably going to call it more often than they would without having that information/influence ahead of time.

Example: Trent has a rep with opposing teams for jawing and it's not unreasonable to think that opposing teams have complained that he's taunting. So when Trent nails a 3 pointer and says "Cash" in front of the opposing bench, he gets T-d up for taunting. Under no circumstances anywhere is saying the word "Cash" a taunt, but he was T-d up nonetheless.

is the non-conference finished? what is with a 12 day off stretch in early December? seem a bit light in terms of games.

It's 31 games. That's on the high end for a normal season.
