The problem is that you are dividing players into 1-5, but here at Illinois we are increasingly playing positionless basketball. Mars would say it's the shoes. But we would say it's the athletes.
You still need guys with specific skills at some positions, most notably PG. A 2 might be able to play the 4 and a 3 might be able to play the 2, but for PG, you need guys with legitimate PG skills. For anyone that remembers trying to play Sergio at PG.
Not sure where this narrative that we're moving to position less basketball is coming from.

From BU. Positionless basketball is versatility ... doesn't mean you don't have to matchup to the other team if they can easily matchup to you.

My thoughts.
SG: Add Skyy, Harris, Mayer, Ty.
SF: Add Mayer, TSJ, possibly even Harris.
PF: Add TSJ, Nance, Hawkins, Dainja.
That's versatility. Gives you options and makes the other team try to match up.
As for minutes? Anybody's guess at this point.

He is definitely slimmer than he was at Baylor. At 0:04, his shirt lifts a bit, and you can see that he still has a soft belly. There are probably another 10-20lbs to be shed, or converted to muscle.

Take everything BU says with a huge grain of salt. I love him as a coach, but he plain bullshits a lot of the time. He may be the premier practicer of coachspeak in the country.
That said both your post and the one you responded to have legitimate PGs at PG, so I can't disagree too much. Other than it's extremely unlikely we get both Nance and Mayer. I'd be delighted with one of them (I prefer Nance).
Gravity, you take off a lot of pounds, you get taller. I read it somewhere.
I get so frustrated with the ignorance of some of our Illini fans. Especially the ones who are always criticizing either the coaches or players!! I don’t see either a title of coach or college player bye the ones who are doing the criticizing!! I been a fan for 57 years and I seen the good and bad!! These young men are fun to watch and the Illini are prevalent again!! GO FIGHTING ILLINI!!

I recall the 2005 Illini using a similar effect. Our guards would come sprinting off cuts and grab Augie and literally use him as a pivot point which not only helped them maintain momentum as they came around but guaranteed a tight pick with no chance for a defender to step in between to defend it.

Yep, Augie was and is one of the most under-appreciated Illini of all-time, including by the Illinois fanbase.

I'm expecting RJ, TSJ, and Sky to be the most locked into minutes. I'll be surprised if any of them is less than 25. There's a lot of talent on the roster, so it's not hard to imagine a deep rotation, even though most times that doesn't pan out. Front court, at least center, seems pretty open for competition to me.
