I’m of the mind the most HOFs are too crowded.

Sometimes it’s unavoidable, but we’ve had a lot of players who deserve to have their Jersey hung in some area of very good rather than the rafters. We have a list of criteria that gets you there I think it’s pretty clear who does and does not get a hung jersey.

Now I think revisiting the criteria might be a good discussion, but beyond that it’s a moot point.

Just a reminder—and I know it has its own section on this forum—but just a onetime plug for the women’s basketball team. Heard Shauna Green speak and saw the team in action. If you have the opportunity, go see these young ladies in action. They put in the work and they’re going to be good.

Be a hero: take your daughter, your girlfriend, your wife (though not all at the same time).

End of plug.

I think Shauna has an even tougher road than Underwood did to get back to respectability, but like Brad, she's got them on the right trajectory. I think in a couple years we'll be proclaiming the women's program as "back", and then hopefully they'll be able to make some hay on the national stage, just as some of Grentz's teams did back when I was a student.

Dainja needs a coach to tell him to change everything about the way he shoots free throws. I can barely watch when he does it. It looks like Charles Barkley trying to swing a golf club. He doesn't need a psychologist, he needs a shooting coach.
I just don't see this. I see the moving parts and the poor shooting, but I don't watch him shoot his FTs and think it is horrendous.

Observations after 3 games, while it's admittedly tough to gauge given the poor quality of our opponents thus far:

- Best player = TSJ. Confident, assertive with a silky smooth touch. His understudy (S. Harris) will be a similar player by his So/Jr season.
- Biggest surprise = Dainja & Epps. Anxious to see how they both fare this coming weekend. Getting 20 ppg more offense out of these two than expected.
- Top underperformer = Mayer. But I'm expecting him to turn things around shortly. May be a single game top scorer before Christmas.
- Now thinking that Skyy will be with us for 2-3 years. Love his game. He's more solid than flashy.
- Be patient with RJ. His game looks fine. Should give us 7-10 ppg by the start of the Big 10 season.
- Ty Rodgers looks to be exactly who we expected him to be. Tough as nails. Great BB IQ. Can play "D" & score from the paint.
- Hawkins; I'm fearful his hot/cold performances may still be with us. Was hoping that advanced maturity would lead to a dependable 12-13 ppg, and 8 reb per game.
- We're a team of slashers. Should be fun to watch as a change-of-pace from the past three years.
- Expecting our defense to be strong and dependable. Dain should plug the middle more than I expected, but he has just 5 fouls to give. We then have to rely on Mayer & CH. This may be a problem against Purdue, Indiana and Michigan.
- Hoping that Goode can be our 48% shooter from beyond the arc. 3-point shooting just might be our Achilles Heel.

Maybe I am in the minority here, but I see a lot of DD free throw gripes on this forum, and, rightfully so. BUT, IMO only, I think Ty has just as bad of free throw form as any of them. Harris' form is cringeworthy as well.
I said this about Ty after the EIU game. They need to work on his mechanics so he doesn't keep putting such a bizarre spin on the ball

It's hard to believe with how good we have been lately, we have not started 4-0, which is what is on the line in Vegas vs. UCLA, in quite a while.

2021-22: 2-0 before the losing 67-66 at Marquette
2020-21: 3-0 before losing 82-69 vs. #2 Baylor (Indianapolis, IN)
2019-20: 2-0 before losing 90-69 at #21 Arizona
2018-19: 1-0 before losing 88-80 vs. Georgetown

You have to go back to Underwood's first season (2017-18), where we started off 6-0 with a weak schedule before losing three straight - at Wake Forest, vs. Northwestern (Arlington Heights, IL) and vs. Maryland in OT (that EPIC collapse).

Anyway, just some random trivia for the day!

CAUTION!! Not for the "way too early crowd" Haha
But thought it would be fun to compare last year's BIG champs Torvik rankings for the BIG to the after 3 games rankings.

Kofi #4
Plummer #16
Frazier #22
Slim #26
Hawk # 66
DMW #80

TSJ #3
Epps #16
Dainja #27
Hawk #29
Skyy #56
RJ #74
Rodgers #78
Mayer #81

It will be interesting to compare these numbers with say some end of January #'s.

Would imply more depth but need to do this again in a week. Also compare to last years team in March.

That's the game where dj bald head ref called a foul on Felize as Dre and the terp guard were wrestling for the ball on the court with only 2 seconds left in the game........

I'll NEVER forget that horrendous call......Clinched his title of worst ref EVER in my mind ......JMHO

Tj looked like he realized that this should be his team this season.

As Brad alluded to, we have some SERIOUS Ayo energy going on so far. And I'm here for it, 110%!

If TSJ can be a veteran "rock" and leader for this team, I think it allows the young guys to blossom under less pressure and really raises the ceiling of this team in March. I know it was just Monmouth, but damn we looked great last night. I am pumped to take on UCLA.

After watching Terrance Shannon a couple of games, I am so grateful we got him. He is a real difference maker.
...and we are just seeing what he is doing during games. The example he sets day in and day out for the younger players is just as, if not more valuable to the program. When they say, "everyday guy", TSJ is the guy that gets his "every day" in before most guys have had breakfast.

I strongly agree drsmitty. In MHO, it would take about three days of extra work with all three to get them on the right track. They do so many things that make consistency difficult. Some coaches think you should never mess with a kid's FT action and all they need is repetition to gain confidence and competence. But I think at this point, they all have proven their method does not work. Likely, they have never had any coaching in the physics and physiology of movement. It really is simply...or trying to keep it simple. Kofi obviously had some help from someone who knew a bit about it. Get them help and maybe DD can serve the team well in crunch time a future tight games we know are coming. Harris and Rogers too. It would be time, or money, well spent.

I hope our coaches don't fit that description of "never mess with a kid's FT action". That would be horrible thinking and would surely cost us some games.

I haven't seen this mentioned here yet...so apologies if it has.....but at one point during the game it was mentioned that TSJ had zero personal fouls....zero fouls...so far this season.

He finished this game with zero fouls. Three games. 26 min, 26 min, 23 min. Zero fouls.

How is this even possible? Am I overreacting? Is this one of the most insane stats ever?

It's pretty insane, especially averaging 1 steal and .67 blocks a game so far. But like so many other stats we're seeing right now, I think things will look significantly different by Sunday night.

Edit--and to go along with that, he's 10th in the country for fouls drawn per 40 at 11.4
