3rd on the team in minutes played when he left (or stepped away). Couldn't have been past PT but a change was coming regarding amount of playing time.
The saying is that "it is not who starts but who finishes the game." Looking at this from the outside and in retrospect, it appeared to me that when Epps finished out the Texas game with Skyy on the bench, the die was cast. Might not have been a coincidence that the losing started immediately thereafter.
I will say that I think BU and Company have handled this matter with class and tact, regardless of what was going on behind the scenes. You want players to know if they do have an issue and it is not working out in their best interests that you will still have their back.
In fairness to Skyy, he missed a lot of basketball due to his injury. He not only had to first recover physically but then also get back his instincts and do this while stepping up in competition and meeting the demands of classwork. I am not surprised he had difficulties.

Kind of a random question, why did M.Mayer transfer here? Or maybe a better question is why did he leave Baylor? Seems like he had been a good contributor for them in the past and could have been this year as well? Are their fans upset he’s not playing for them now? If the roles were reversed, I’d probably wish he was still on my team.

I’m glad we benefited from the circumstances as he’s become quite the fixture for us. Maybe NIL attracted him to our program; i honesty don’t know.

For #TeamRankingsMatter and all others who want to see that little number next to our name, #19 Clemson lost to Wake Forest yesterday ... hopefully that helps open up some room for us if we can beat Indiana. Quite a few teams ranked ahead of us are in some interesting games this week, as well:

Today
#22 Providence at #20 Marquette
#25 Arkansas at Missouri (two reasons to be rooting for Mizzou!)

Thursday
#23 Rutgers at Michigan State (also want to knock RU down to our level in the standings)

Saturday
#17 Miami (FL) at Duke
#20 Marquette at Seton Hall (always a tough place to play)
Virginia Tech at #19 Clemson (VT was ranked at one point)

Can't disagree the writing was on the wall - while his Playing time stayed consistent his numbers/stats didn't reflect the number of minutes he was playing. He started until the BCU game when he was injured and didnt dress. Northwestern was next - Harris started and was on the bench after 2 fouls in first minute. Clark played 20 minutes but only score 2 pts with 3 rebounds and then he left the team.

We will definitely still be ranked in the coaches poll (we are #23 right now). I have to think we will sneak in top 25 of AP poll, but IMO, this team is playing better with a chip on their shoulders. I would not mind being unranked for another week or so. The AP poll is all over the map, and I feel it is useless. The Coaches Poll has always felt more reputable to me. This year though, it is unsurprising to see such disconnect from #15-30 between polls because of the levels of parity we have seen this year.
Disagree, most coaches don't watch other games and many don't even fill it out themselves. Ap poll usually closer to reality

By his size, mainly. He’s clearly a PG.
Due to his size, his money is in PG at the NBA level. You can tell him play SG but he (or they) may not be happy. Water under the bridge anyway. I would not sell him to play SG if I were the next school recruiting him.

Ben Simmons with less athleticism but actually enjoys playing basketball.

(Great length, defense, & defensive versatility. Not a confident shooter. Fancies himself as a 6'10" PG.)
I thought about this but not necessarily a great comparison. Simmons is a non-shooter (literally 0% 3P% this year b/c he didn't take any) and Hawkins is at least a half-decent shooter (he will take 3s with low 3P% initially.) If Hawkins doesn't shoot well, he is not going to be that useful in NBA IMO. I think CH's perimeter defense is better than Simmons though.

The writing is on the wall IMO. Skyy looked like the odd man out and his camp might be actually smart in pulling him out.

I’m glad we benefited from the circumstances as he’s become quite the fixture for us. Maybe NIL attracted him to our program; i honesty don’t know.
Though he started every game for Baylor last year he was only the sixth man in terms of minutes played. He was a key piece but not the marquee player. His likely visibility was enhanced here.

Saw a post from a Baylor fan here a while ago. Basically saying Baylor and MM were in mutual agreement to separate since it had been long enough. So it was really about time for MM to find a different school and nobody was too upset. It was kind like our Grandison situation. This is probably common these days.

I'm with you across the board minus one - never, ever, ever root for Duke. I hope Miami beats them by 73 and makes Sheyer quit.

A forfeit would be a loss of Northwestern and a win for Iowa.
Forfeit makes sense for conference standings. The NFL had to figure out how to balance uneven records

However Northwestern is currently a bubble team I don’t think the selection committee will penalize a team who had to forfeit when other conferences cancel the game ie UCONN women a couple weeks ago

How about Charleston(18) loses to Monmouth? How the voters gave them a ranking is beyond me. They’ve played exactly 1 legitimate team, UNC, and lost by 16. #teamrankingsmatter

Why did he transfer? To have a bigger role.

Why did he transfer here? NIL

Lots of (rightful) talk about the poor officiating across the big ten. Late block in the OSU game, Edey ripping Sissoko’s arm off, and the Coleman charge all in a 7ish day period.

My question: is the big ten reffing really that much worse than other conferences?
No! Did you see the Kansas-Kansas State game last night? If you watch most of the power conferences, they are very close to the same.

I always wonder this ... it's hard to imagine crews worse than the Big Ten's, but every other conference fan base says the same thing about their league. :ROFLMAO: I do think the Big Ten refs unquestionably allow the most fouls to go uncalled, though.

The UConn women didn't cancel a game. It's been rescheduled.

Don't some of these officials work across conferences?

A forfeit does not make sense for a an unavoidable situation. That penalizes a team(s) and rewards another(s). Making a tough decision like the NFL did has to be accepted. Forfeit is NOT the answer.

Simmons is ALL-NBA defense. I don't even like Simmons, but he is one of the best defenders in the league.

I do agree with you that it is not a great comparison though! Simmons is able to play a pure point guard position in the NBA. He is able to handle and dish with the best of them at his size and height. Hawkins will not be able to handle or play a guard position in the NBA. He can definitely be a 4/5 who can handle from the 4/5 position and can play good wing defense! IMO
