He made sure he got his last NIL payment before he announced his leave
I know you can't get specific, but what kind of money are we talking for one semester of play? Seems like there would be some type of clause regarding quitting. If I were paying his NIL I would be pissed and reluctant to do it again.
And yes, he announced today for the attention and shade.

Is Skyy going to be academically eligible? If he didn’t finish the semester at Illinois then he should not be able to play until he earns the credit hours to qualify as a sophomore. He could be enrolled online and be in good academic standing but I don’t know.

Also the NCAA needs to regulate the ability of the player/coaches from discussing transferring to another school before they enter the transfer portal. I don’t know if that applies in this case but in a lot of transfers the decision is made before they transfer
Majority of classes are online if not all

It all varies per player. Per deal. How many deals they have with however many companies.

I believe to say this may be frowned on here, but when a player leaves the beloved they are dead to me. I care not for what they do, how they do, or where they do it, but they are no longer worth our fandom once they leave. I wish them no I'll will, but they no longer exist in my universe.
In the heightened level of violence , not saying you are expousing harm in any way , maybe word that bold above something like
I could care less if they have success or failure ......But thats just me.......You don't seem to have a violent side of you that peeps should worry aboot .........unless your a republican.............oops, there it is ....oops there it is......... to /s or not to /s , that is
the question.....................It really really is ......................

I can see how some might construe it that way Pru, and as a retired military man I can assure you that I abhor violence more than anyone, as I KNOW who bears the burden of violence. It's more in line with the thought that they cease to exist in my universe if they leave the beloved, much like every player in the NCAA does not matter to me if they do not play for the beloved.

The Illinois Fighting Illini men’s basketball program is back in the NCAA Tournament for a third consecutive season. It is the 33rd trip to the NCAA Tournament for the Fighting Illini.
Illinois enters this year’s tournament 20-12 overall. It faces the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday in the first round of the 2023 March Madness NCAA Tournament.
The Illinois men’s basketball program made its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament during the 1941-42 season. Illinois has reached the Final Four on five occasions. Illinois last reached the Final Four in 2005, when it lost to North Carolina in the national championship game.

Brad Underwood is the seventh Illinois head coach to lead the Illini to the NCAA Tournament. Underwood’s third NCAA Tournament trip with the Illini matches the three trips by Lon Kruger and Bill Self.

The game will take place at 3:30 p.m. CT on Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa.

The winner of the Illinois vs. Arkansas Razorbacks game will meet on Saturday the winner of No. 1 seed Kansas vs. No. 16 seed Howard.

It's a shame we were deprived of the bid our team earned in 2019-20 (obviously not just us), if we were at 4 consecutive tournaments, that would be our third longest consecutive tournament streak ever.

1983 to 1990 = 8 consecutive tournaments
2000 to 2007 = 8 consecutive tournaments

Bears a major mention of course, that the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985, and the "modern tournament" really began in 1979 (expanded from 32 -> 40 teams and then 48 the following season, and began seeding). Illinois made 22/27 tournaments (81.5 %) between 1981 and 2007, so it is nice to the program back on track after only making 3/12 (25 %) tournaments between 2008 and 2019. After those years, we should never take seasons that end in NCAA Tournament appearances for granted, imo.

Exactly as predicted / expected. Anyone who wants to wish him well, you’re a better man or woman than me.
In all honesty, if you were in his position, what would you have done? Give it back? Keep in mind, he's probably not on campus in the first place without the NIL deal. I have no clue as to how those payments work, but I suspect that you don't want to be a known as a program that pulls money (regardless of justification). This is a new world that we live in given the portal and NIL. Let's also be honest, we're one of the "haves" vs the "have nots" when it comes to playing the game. It'd be hypocritical to get on the kids case because we have been beneficiaries of the "rule".

Yes, I tend to not accept money after quitting a job. I don't find that hypocritical in the least.

Cue the "he's just a kid, didn't you ever do anything dumb" responses and the "NIL is not pay-for-play" responses. Not directed at you, Second place.

I'm sick to death of the former as an excuse for bad behavior. I do understand the distinction in the latter, he was paid strictly for the right to use his likeness. However I'd argue such value is greatly diminished once you take your ball and go home. (Not a lawyer!)
