There are two kinds of college basketball fans, casual and serious. Casual fans only pay attention to March Madness, especially the Final Four. Serious fans care about important stuff, like winning the recruiting rankings.
You forgot gamblers... Sometimes they care more than anyone :)

Geez, we live and die with every possession of every game of every season. This is why the play the game and people buy tickets to sit in the seats and I tune in to BTN. Every dribble and every breath I take matter. This is why I wear the tee shirts.

How much much do you guys care about big ten championships vs March Madness performance when judging a seasons success?

Personally I care significantly (like 90-10) more about March, but I was wondering what other people thought.
It’s a combination. Putting any banner up is a successful season ie regular season conference tournament or final four

However if you are a four seed or better and don’t make it to the second weekend then the season ended in a disappointing manner

Which program is more successful one the has 25 Big ten Championships and 2 final fours or 18 Big Ten Championship and 5 final fours

There are three kinds of college basketball fans. Like you said the casual fan that only watches March Madness, but I would add sees a few other games. They watch highlights on ESPN. The second are the serious fans you mentioned that care and watch/attend games. They check out channel 3 or ESPN to see if Iowa and Michigan lost. The third kind of fan are Loyalty fans that go nuts to the tune of 40+ pages about a recruit, the one that might be the next option, former players. neighbor ladies and cottage cheese. Happy to admit to being part of that third group. Thanks Dan and everyone. ILL

Today is my close personal friend Kendall Gill's birthday. Not as close as Kendall Gill's Uncle obviously.
My daughter informed him that this past Sunday was my birthday. He sent a video greeting. Did a great job. I would recommend it if you want to surprise an Illini friend.

When I was in elementary school Tab Bennett (defensive end Illini 2nd team all american) came to Yankee Ridge to see us.

Nobody paid him. I think our teacher was friends with one of the coaches.

Kendall Gill came to my 3rd grade class at Leal. Still have his autograph on some random school paper in a box somewhere 😂

Yeah, that's a definite LOL. I go to the same church where Meyers went, and still didn't have insider status. He was a good kid who set quietly through the sermon.
I'm from Robinson, but was away in the Marines when he was living there. Curious which church?
