We're all going to judge the team by results, but it's possible (probable) that the staff sees things we don't. They may have believed this was a reasonable fallback plan and don't have the same questions we have from the outside because they know they're guys better than anyone.

Lot of reasons to question it. In fact, I'd say more questions than answers. Teams that contend for the title usually have minor question marks, and this one's a pretty big one.

I kind of disagree with your first statement. I think it was the chemistry and buy-in that sunk the team, not the point guard play. I see a lot of criticism of Epps, and for sure he had some issues and was a true freshman, but if I'm painting with a broad brush, it was attitude and buy-in that made the team's arc go from dark horse title contender, to rolling over down the stretch.

I'm not as concerned as most, but I'm like that most seasons. Not sure if this team can get to the second weekend, but willing to see it play out, and as long as they're playing hard and getting better, I'll probably enjoy the season.
and shooting, but also shooting, and shooting, shooting. Luckily we addressed that this offseason.

Ty Rodgers is a very promising player, but the idea of him as a point guard will survive contact with reality exactly as long as every other non-guard who people pretend can fulfill those duties because they have good passing vision.
Not just court vision, Ty has actual passing skills and ball handling skills. He can also get the rim and finish through contact, and showed a good left hand at lower levels. On top of that, he shed 15 lbs since last season.

The concerns are his shooting; mid-range, long range, and free throws.

What? He was the best PG in the country in college - nobody else being considered can say that- he was the #3 pick in the draft , much higher than anyone else in the conversation- he “blossomed at Illinois”
Deron was a great college player who also was able to play at high levels in the pros. He didn’t hit his potential in college not a lot of athletes can say that especially the #3 pick. His development is what every pro team wants. remember he wasn’t consider the best high school player on his team or best incoming freshman to Illinois

Yeah, I find those comments so bad as to be bizarre. Deron came in about 50 RSCI, and by the end of his soph year was considered borderline pro, but stuck around and moved up to a top 3 pick. If Deron didn't blossom, then there's no such thing. Guy worked his butt off, and although I'm sure he wouldn't recommend it, breaking his jaw had the serendiptous side effect of quickly slimming him down.

Was pretty much a toss-up at the time. CP3 has certainly had the longer career.
Other than their head to head record (Deron’s team’s absolutely owned CP3’s teams 17-8), CP3 was better in almost every statistical category.

Gonna be a tough call to play Ty in the final 4 minutes, especially in single bonus situations, unless he doubles his FT % which would be hard to believe could happen or it would have been addressed last year. But with DGL and Harmon on the roster, there are alternatives. I truly admire Ty's skill and work ethic, but can't imagine how he got to this point in his career with so many technique errors at the FT line. What is baffling is there is plenty of film with Ty knocking down 15 ft jumpers with acceptable technique, so with a but of support, he will likely surprise many of us at times with a swish or two from 12-20 ft. His leadership and confidence could be huge factors in this coming season.

Deron was awesome. One of my favorite players ever. Played a little one on one with him even. But it's not like he was dominant out there. Maybe he could've been? But he was happy to let his teammates have the spotlight. There's a reason he didn't have a ton of accolades in college.

No he most certainly did not. He hit a whole other level in the pros. He was not a borderline pro after his sophomore year. He SHOT up the draft boards when he went in and did individual workouts.

Deron Williams was awesome!! But, a very good scout, made a very good call on just how good Deron would become once he got rid of the pudge. All of that happened in the pros.

Not like he slimmed down in the pros. He became a machine in the pros until he got injured. I am sorry for my bad and bizarre comments. Unfortunately, I love being absolutely spot on right about this one.

Deron got rid of the “pudge” when he broke his jaw while at Illinois. And he knew way before the “nba workouts” that he was going pro.
