Pretty good looking stroke- seems like he's changed his shooting motion as there is a lot more fluidity to it. If I have a quibble from that video though, there is just so little movement off the ball. Almost statuesque out there... Puts a lot of pressure on the PG and 1on1 iso to be successful if that doesn't change.
that video/offense looks the same as last year Ball stays on one side of the court and no movement. Final result is good (for that possession)

Hoping Sincere has gotten his shot reworked and has some confidence with it. Really rooting for him to succeed with all the effort he puts forth.

I noticed the stagnate "offense" as well. Even after the shot went up, didn't see much urgency to get a rebound either..... I thought upperclassmen Guerrier and Domask (hammy issue) would come in and at least teach these kids how to hustle. Are we looking at a sad rerun of the offense last year? Can any insiders speak on this?

I hope not. But this video got me thinking.
Underwood seems to have a preference for a two guard front. Whereas, Self is quoted as having a preference for
an odd, or a one-guard front.
(talking strictly against man-D/in general )
Pros and cons to both…it’s just that inquiring minds want to know.

It was a practice session!😂😂 None of us has a clue as to what they were working on. Come on now Sincere made a 3 all that matters.

I don't want to extrapolate too much from one clip of one one possession. It does look very similar to the dribble hand off offense they've been running but hard to tell much about off ball movement because the ball never rotated to opposite side of the floor.

Sidenote: I hate how Brad uses dribble hand offs. The illini have just kind of lazily used them without purpose, so it basically just serves to slow down ball movement and delay swinging the ball which puts less pressure on the defense.

If you're going to use dribble hand offs it has to be a with a purpose. Utilize them to get a switch where you can create a mismatch and then exploit said mismatch or run it into a high pick.

There are so many things you can do with dribble hand offs and the illini simply don't do any of them. They tend to run them too far out from the basket, don't create contact, go east/west too much, and the guy receiving the hand off doesn't tend to come off hard enough and attack the defense. Also, the guy initiating the hand off should be stopping earlier with the guy receiving coming to get it in order to use it more like a pick and roll.

The guy giving the hand off should be trying to get inside the three point line beforehand then acting as a screen for the guy receiving the hand off. The guy receiving the hand off needs tighter into initiator and look to turn that corner and attack or for an open jump shot created by their defender going under.

Once you get it rolling you can fake it into back cuts, turn it into a pick and roll, fake the hand off to keep the ball and attack.

Underwood said in the interview after the practice that they're working on basic stuff for the moment, to get the new guys up to speed for the Spain trip. It might be too early to predict the quality of our offense in November, December, etc., based on what we're seeing in videos Aug. 2nd.

Looked like they were running a drill to keep the ball moving to certain spots with just token perimeter defense. Learning where to be and when.
