I don’t see a place for him at the four. This year you have QG and Hansberry there and next Hansberry and Morez. It looks like they may play two fours instead of a 4 and a 5 as this year with Hawk and QG or Hansberry. These guys are bigger and can shoot. Guess you can argue as to the best position for a non shooter but he is big and can overpower guards at the basket. Not true against a four.
He has a lot of power and quickness to the basket and as the season went on he became much more comfortable around the rim. He's a tough matchup because he's stronger than most little guys and quicker than most big guys.

If you want him at the 1, you have to surround him with shooters to allow him to do what Pickett did to us so well. If they crash down, we need to be able to hit the open kick out three.

can't say if this ever came to fruition, but its atleast been discussed
3000 student season tickets sold in less than 24 hours. Was told that getting into and through the queue was very difficult. Seating will be first come first seated for those with season tickets, and they have been advised to arrive 3 hours prior to doors opening to have best chance at being floor level. Not sure how big the Krush has been in the past, but 3000 students in the lower bowl seems like an increase. Students who didn't get season tickets can buy single game tickets through the portal, but they will likely be seated up in the rafters.

3000 was the same allotment as last season, they just didn't have anywhere near 3000 seats available.

My Dream for this season is coach Underwood has more than a man to man defense with this squad! I had the opportunity of watching coach Steve Alford when he was coaching the UNM Lobos in Albuquerque play a 1-3-1 with Darrington Hopson from Decatur, Illinois at the top. A 6.7 man at the 1.. In the middle a 7 foot tall, on the left was 6.6ft. , person on the right that was 6.5ft person.
under the rim that was 6.8ft..
Opposing teams literally could not score on that defense because they were all fast. And they got into the lanes and got steals. And most importantly, they rebounded everything.

How about: Ts Jr. at 1, Dainja in middle, outside 3- Ty Rodgers, 4 outside right Domask/Goode, and 5 under rim Cohawk.
🙏 a 1-3-1. I haven't even mentioned Quincy, Harmon, nor Sincere.
Just my humble opinion.
Go I L L I N I!
I think you could do it for stretches(also think they could press a lot) but zones don't really work as well with how much better teams shoot these days.

I'm a bit surprised by this take. Harmon looked like he was having a rough time on the defensive end during the Spain trip. True, completely new system and only so much you can take from a midsummer overseas trip, but he didn't really flash to me on that end. While I'm hopeful he's a defensive stud where you throw him and Sencire out there as a "tempo line" who inject straight rocket fuel into our veins by terrorizing the opponents, but I'm a bit skeptical based on what we've seen of him when he isn't behind closed doors.

He didn’t have a great trip … No denying that …

But Brad has said he’s been our best guard defender in practice … Buck just fouls … A lot … I think that might be why Brad made that comment …

Brad has been a lot more hands on with it … They’ve already been installing sets …

Brad also expects us to be top 10 defensively … This team will also THRIVE in transition … Very few if any teams can match our athleticism 1-5

I’m willing admit when I’m wrong … I thought he was gonna need a year to get ready … I was wrong … He’s gonna be ready, at least offensively … Defensively is an area for improvement and working with Fletch on strength …

However - a comp for Dravyn that Brad gave me … Trent Frazier with more athleticism … He’s got that type of potential … I think we all remember Trent freshman year and how much he improved defensively year over year … Same game plan for Dravyn … I have REALLY been impressed with the kid since he got here … He wants to be great …
I mean is any freshman good at defense.

Hansberry will be of more help in the big ten season. i think if we were to introduce some high / low sets for two of these three, Hansberry, Danja, Hawkins (danja always the low?) in big ten ball. we could have an effective set with two wing shooters. Another way to use Hansberry in lieu of a traditional 4. If two of the three can guard with their feet on the perimeter.

Standing up to be recognized. I am absolutely one of the non-believers.

Derek Harper, Kiwane Garris and Deron Williams constitute my gold standard when it comes to premiere Illini point guards. I love Ty to death and I believe we can easily finish in the Top 4 of the conference with the current roster.......with a 5 seed or better in the NCAA tourney.

However, I've yet to see Ty hit any type of shot beyond 8 feet from the basket. I expect opposing defenses to sag way off, forcing us to play 4 on 5 basketball.

Perhaps I'm wrong and we'll see a Kendall Gill type of Sophomore jump!!
No way a top 4 finish and a 5 seed happens unless Ty is good at PG. No team can win 4 on 5.

Where can we find game film of all these basketball shutouts? :)

actually, i think Ty could watch Steve Bardo's point guard play. Could be an excellent comp. Same sort of
body, athleticism. Bardo was a decent shooter but not great, was surrounded by players.

The 3 point shot was not a staple back then, though, like it is today. I also seem to remember him hitting a high percentage. Which, now that I go back and look, he was a career 46% shooter from 3-pt range, albeit on only 134 attempts across his 4 seasons here.

Granted the 3-pt line was only 19'-9" (2'-4 3/4" closer) when Bardo played.

Defenses also didn't pressure the line the way they do now because for the most part they did not need to. The evolution of every facet of the game over the past 35 years has been pretty stunning.

Eight days until we get to open the first window on our advent calendars, folks. I'm excited.

Rather --- I see it this way.

If Ty cannot adequately handle full-time PG duties, I believe there are 3 other competent candidates who will get those minutes (S. Harris, DGL and Harmon). My overall confidence stems from the fact we have a pretty good stable of 3* PG talent.

Yeah, he only shot when he was absolutely 100% wide open.
