They paid a lot of money. But it's a small sum by State Farm's standards. $60 mil for 30 years so, basically $2 mil per year.

They spend about $1 billion per year on advertising. They likely spent $15-20 million on their 60 second Super Bowl ad alone.

We needed the money, so we can't turn our nose up at it. But I think SF probably won that deal.
It was a lot more per year than comparable deals for college basketball facilities, especially ones in small markets that don't have other major events there.

Local company, they paid a top of market rate, I have no beef with the State Farm Center, I'm not going to be a dead ender about using the old name.

I was super happy to hear this and wanted to see how it compared to past years (i.e., to judge if our fan interest really has increased significantly since we got good again). We have had a couple different capacities for AH/SFC over the years, so I looked at crowds of 15,000 or more per season:

2000: 6 (and crowds at the UC of 20k and 22k)
--- Bill Self replaces Lon Kruger ---
2001: 8 (and a UC crowd of 22k)
2002: 12 (and a UC crowd of 19k)
2003: 8 (and a UC crowd of 15k)
--- Bruce Weber replaces Bill Self ---
2004: 11 (and 2 crowds of 15k at the UC)
2005: 14 (and a UC crowd of 21k)
2006: 16, sold out every game (and a UC crowd of 20k)
2007: 17, sold out every game (and a UC crowd of 16k)
2008: 15, sold out every game (and a UC crowd of 20k)
2009: 10 (UC crowd of only 12k)
2010: 9 (and a UC crowd of 21k)
2011: 12 (UC crowd of only 13k)
2012: 8 (and a UC crowd of 15k)
--- John Groce replaces Bruce Weber ---
2013: 8 (and a UC crowd of 18k)
2014: 12 (UC crowd of only 13k)
2015: 7 (UC crowd of only 14k)
2016: ZERO (and a UC crowd of only 5k) ... MAN, this was the depth of Illini apathy!
2017: 2 (UC crowd so bad they didn't publish attendance)
--- Brad Underwood replaces John Groce ---
2018: 1 (UC crowd of only 6k)
2019: 1 (UC crowd of only 5k)
2020: 6 (no UC game)
2021: N/A
2022: 8 (no UC game)
2023: 13 (no UC game)
2024: 13 (no UC game)

So the last two years have had the most crowds over 15k since we were riding the excitement post-Final Four run. Looking at this also shows that attendance very clearly lags results. We might have been good in 2019-20 and bad in 2007-08, but it was the couple years BEFORE those seasons that dictated attendance.

Coleman has to be one of the funniest players ever to wear the orange and blue, lol!

I sincerely wish—no, need—our guys to pound Penn State into the court so hard that PSU will be pooping splinters for a month. Penn State has banned Illinois fans from attending the Illinois @ Penn State game.

I bought tickets for the game via SeatGeek, but due to unexplained reason(s), the game was moved from the 15,000 seat Bryce Jordan Center to the 6,000 seat Rec Hall, a quaint dinosaur. Think Huff Gym, just a little larger.

I received an email that explained that for “issues beyond the control” of SeatGeek, I’m not getting tickets. PSU announced earlier that there would be no ticket sales to the general public. However, SeatGeek and Stub Hub were selling tickets, almost all of which must season ticket holders’ tickets.

What’s not clear is why we can’t use those tickets. Average home game basketball attendance for the Nittany Lions’ has been 6,000. Or basically, the capacity of Rec Hall. That attendance at the Bryce Jordan center includes general public sales.

So surely even in Rec Hall there should be space enough for at least a few visiting team fans to attend. Because what the heck, their season ticket holders aren’t going.

Penn State, banning visiting team’s fans from the arena is not a good look, not a good look at all.

Coleman’s problem with regards to fan/media perception is two fold. First, he’s put in some of the highest leverage positions. He’s called upon to to make tough calls consistently and you don’t cover up failures in that position. Luckily he’s cut down on those.

Second he’s an emotional player. Another double edged sword. When he’s down it shows and that a tough look.

Easy to micro analyze him as a player but if you step back you see how crucial a role he plays.

Coleman’s shot is so smooth right now and he’s proving to be such a leader on the floor that he will find a home in the NBA next year.

While he’s pursuing his career in the Association, it wouldn’t be a bad idea for Coleman to work on taking up the tenor saxophone. Something tells me he’d be a natural. Smooth and sweet and soulful... just like his touch from Three.

Was it asinine when more fouls were called against our opponents when Kofi was on the team?
It's tough officiating guys that big... There were many occasions where Kofi got absolutely mauled and refs swallowed their whistles...now, I'm sure the same can be said about Edey to a degree, but Edey very much gets NPOY treatment. For as great as Edey is, there is simply no way the guy has commited such a low volume of fouls in comparison to every other big in the country. Aside from that, although Edey definitely has a part in this, the fact that Purdue is 33-0(!!!) in the officiating battle over the past year and 62-1 in the past 63 games IS asinine.
