I imagine it went something like this ... Especially since Fletch and Jon talk on the regular ...

Fletch says what do you think about coming down here .... Jon says absolutely, I would love to work with you and stay at a Big Ten program ...

Fletch then said hey Josh you got a minute? Josh said, sure do why don't you come on over Fletch ...

Fletch went up to Josh's office and said I’d like to hire Jon Sanderson ...

Josh said here’s a check …

F Michigan … :ROFLMAO:

And oh yeah ... Make sure to tell Courtney to get that hire out on social media ... The fans will LOVE it ...

(Side note: there was no need to include permission from Brad ... Brad literally lets Fletch do whatever Fletch wants to do ... Very hands off because he has that trust in Fletch to get the f'ing job done ...)

He went 9-0 against us while playing for the Boilermakers. He started the curse we are suffering thru to this day.
It sucks, but (other than Maryland) Purdue really has had our number over the years ... which is frustrating, because we both have very similar all-time histories - identical all-time winning percentages, and either program leads in various categories (e.g., we have 5 Final Fours to their 2 Final Fours and zero since 1980, but they have 26 Big Ten championships to our 18).

And I grew up with my formative Illini years being 2001 to 2006 - yes, I realize how spoiled I was!! - so I never fully understood this until we got bad again. From 2001 to 2006, we went 8-3 vs. Purdue, and all three losses were similar to our recent losses to PSU ... they were frustrating upsets to a clearly inferior team. It's interesting how the decade you first become a fan will shape who you think of as the "big time" programs, at least at first. I NEVER grew up with much respect for Indiana's tradition, for example ... it was about as relevant as the fact that Illini football used to be dominant! Lol.

Mackey is an incredibly tough place to win. An avalanche of hayseeds crashing down on you the second they make a bucket.

And Painter really exploits the way games get refereed in those kinds of B1G environments. You're in for a street fight against a team that is itching to turn a scramble play into a momentum-shifting 3.

Great move on so many levels. [complete speculation] I'm guessing he's a consultant because he'll be a very hot commodity and want to be able to land somewhere as a full time gig and consultant keeps some flexibility.
Assume it's analogous to the Jim Leonhard situation

Edit: as already noted by others above

The other factor here is that Sanderson was the starting small forward on the Ohio State basketball team in 1999. He brings more to the table than just his impressive strength & conditioning coach credentials. As a starting forward on a Final Four Team, he brings something into our locker room that the players on our current team can respect, relate too and, if we are lucky, learn from: Final Four experience at a time when we legitimately could have a Final Four Team! Such a great hire, no matter what happens and such a great punking of Michigan right before the Howard firing.

Wow, thanks go out to the players and coaching staff. What a year 26-8 so far, with a team that is playing their best going in to the dance.

The last 8 games 7-1 with 5-1 vs Quad 1 teams.

We are well suited to make a Sweet 16 and the go for the Final 4. Then who knows

It's has been a fun year to watch all the games, as the story continues

Not to dump on Groce, but I wonder how much better the 2012-13 team would’ve been with the current version of Underwood as head coach
