I mean he’s just never been a shooter at any level. Shooting threes in practice is one thing, but in game I just don’t see it. I’d love if he proved me wrong tho!!
I can see Ty having a similar development arc as Damonte Williams - who was never a high volume shooter (didn't take more than 3-4 shots a game) but did everything else to help the team win. Damonte turned himself into a good shooter and shot 54% from three his Jr. year (on only 2.2 shots a game). I don't doubt Ty being able to be a decent shooter on low volume, but it would be huge for his game to just force the defense to cover him from beyond the paint. Would open up the whole offense and not allow them to put a Center on him

Agree to disagree, at least about last year. Watched him up close in shootaround and everything was a brick. His being told not to shoot last year was not about a role, it was because shooting was not his strength.

Ty is a terrific player, for his attitude and athleticism and other reasons. I am super happy he is a part of this team. But none of those reasons necessarily mean he can shoot.

If he has made some massive off-season improvement in that regard, it would be awesome and I'd be even happier for him.
I got draw a correlation to Da'Monte Williams. Some how our "Defense, Rebounding, and Glue guy" became a shooter

I am 60+ and have yet to find the perfect Bloody Mary..... I try, frequently. I had one, somewhere, at some point in time, that I wish I had the recipe for..... I'm just not that big of a tomato juice fan, though I LOVE cooking with it. Weird, I know.

Ty? Yeah, I'd love to see him make a 3 or two every few games. Don't expect it, and it's not nearly as crucial to expanding his game as a reliable mid-range shot is. I don't really care if he takes a single 3 this season, but I'd sure like to see 2-3 15 footers taken each game.
No idea if you would ever have any reason to be down that way, but the best Bloody Mary I've ever had is from a tiny little brunch spot called The Iron Whisk in Cobden, IL. It has just enough smokiness to cancel out the off-putting sweetness of the tomato juice without going overboard. Their food is great also.

I'd love to see it, but Damonte was at least willing to shoot when he got to college. He attempted over one a game his first two seasons. (40 & 41 attempts)

The next 3 pointer Ty takes in his career will be the first. I don't think you go from being a non-shooter straight to a good shooter. You usually have to pass through bad shooter and mediocre shooter first. If he can just get to 30% it would be a big boost to his game.

Never been, but do pass along the 57 there every couple of years, will keep it in mind. Never had a 'smoky' bloody mary, (checked their website) but I do enjoy smoky/peaty scotches/bourbons.

I hope that Ty doesn't shy away from mid/long range shots this year if he is open. It's best for his development if he does. Though having a roster full of players who can hit from range, he may defer.

Damonte was also a big time scorer in HS before his knee injury so he had maybe a better starting point. Like Ty though he really lacked confidence in his shooting and that took him awhile to overcome. I think the ability can be there for Ty if he gets the confidence going.

Was he? I thought I saw where he averaged 15 a game in HS, Ty averaged 17.

That said, his shot was certainly never as bad as what Ty has shown. About half of his shot attempts were 3s even as a FR/SO.

Funny , with all the stats and video , that DMFW was better know for his throwing the BB off another player to go out of bounds and Illini ball........................It really really is funny if you think about it ..............................................or not.............................

I'll have to check it out. Usually eat at the Mexican taco stand, but for some reason, I didn't make it there this Summer.

It’s a very small space, so there’s usually a wait, but it’s worth it. I love the taco stand also. And then you can waste the day away at Fuzzy’s! 🍻

I “liked” this because I agree with the sentiment, but without looking it up, I’m like 99% sure Ty took a corner 3 his freshman year.

Wonder if it has to do with trying to take advantage of the what one would expect should be a very large crowd in town for Saturday’s Oklahoma football game. Earlier start time could entice some fans to hang around for game rather than hit the road early.
Good point I did not think about that thought early game but completely makes since especially with football down south thanks for pointing that out

No reason to expect Ty to be even a mid-range shooter. If you don't have a shot by the time you're a high schooler you never will. Have to love Ty for the other stuff.

Anyone else feel like we’re all sleeping on Dra? Kid looks noticeably bigger from last season. Showed great flashes at the end of the year.. Hope he gets some early tic.
I feel like I must have fallen asleep when Dra was in near the end of the year because I keep seeing people say he showed flashes late, and I just didn’t see it. He didn’t get lost as much on D and seemed to give good effort on that end, but I didn’t think results were great. I can’t remember if he was battling an injury, but he didn’t play much down the stretch of regular season after going 2 for 11 against Mich and PSU. He did play in conf and NCAA tourney, but other than the two 3s against Morehead, I didn’t see him do all that much. Again, maybe I was dozing.

I’d love to see him take a step forward in year 2 and he does seem to have the mental makeup for that to happen. A smaller guard with some jitterbug to his game off the bench would be a nice piece to have, especially on D against other smaller guys. But I need to see more from him to believe it will happen. As always though, I’ll be cheering that it does.

If he went through the Trent Frazier school of toughness and defense then he's going to see the court. That combined with improved shot selection could take him far.

He already has my respect for sticking around. But, IMO, he will need to take a huge step to be part of the regular rotation, especially considering the talent (presumably) in front of him.

Ty actually shot the ball more in high school and had a decent shot. From his scouting report in high school on 247 it says hes best at mid and close range scoring, but isnt a reliable long range shooter at this point but his range is improving.

Again im not saying he needs to shoot a bunch but just make the defense respect you so they cant completely clog the lane. Can only help if he gains a shot.

Ok, I am also 60+ and Bloody Mary's are pretty much my only drink now. Here you go: start with a Bloody Mary mix (there are many good ones, regular or spicy, Mix has more full body flavor than just tomato juice and I can drink some of them straight instead of tomato juice, which I don't drink), a decent vodka, then add a couple tablespoons of worcestershire, a couple tablespoons of pickle brine, a couple shakes of celery salt (or Taijin), then a splash of tobasco, and a little horseradish (adjust tobasco and horseradish to the "bite" you like), then a celery stick and a couple olives. I don't like a charcuterie board in my drink. That's all I got today.
