The same is true in Schools of Education across the country The "god term" is relationship. Teachers intending to enter the profession are taught that establishing a relationship with students is the primary goal of the teachng-learning process, and than comes reading, arthrimetic, and writing
The theory is that they have to like us to listen to us.

It's really that they have to respect us, but how to do that is much trickier than "build a relationship." I imagine how to get good classroom management is also how you get good team buy-in though, too. And it's not by being friends.

Effective leadership is about relationships. Expecting a guy to lead a team he joined a few months before the season wasn't going to work. TSJ will have a better opportunity to be that guy if he returns. Hawkins' issues have, IMO, been about maturity. Not everyone matures at the same rate, but often when people are college age it happens suddenly. I think everyone learned a lot about what teamwork doesn't look like this year. Failure is a great teacher and motivator.
Well, sometimes.

I found there were two types of people, those that give a sxxt and those that didn’t. Once the person understood he had made a mistake those that cared already felt bad so why yell. The others were a waste of time yelling at by definition.

There are some big names in the portal Illinois is waiting on. Keep a lookout in the next couple of week of who goes in the portal
I can't recall which Twitter account mentioned it (there's been a TON of Illini activity on Twitter the last few days), but someone said Illinois is all in on a possible transfer big out of the ACC that can shoot from three pretty well. Any ideas on who that could be? I see Illinois is listed with UNC transfer Dontrez Styles. I watch a bit of Carolina hoops. When given a chance to play, he's pretty decent. Not a world-beater but a decent piece to add to the roster. Thoughts on him?

Benny Williams of Syracuse? PJ Hall of Clemson?

Those are the only two "bigs" on orange ACC teams I can find that shoot the 3 ball at a decent clip.

Bonus: Williams is from Bowie, MD between DC and Baltimore, so maybe a Chester connection?

It's supposedly from a top-5 ACC team. That's what I remember. I'll see if I can track down the tweet maybe. *shrug*

I think most kids whether it was 25-30 years ago or today want to be coached....they want the coach to be tough, fair and respectful....yelling or screaming isn't the issue....

Young people participating in sports today remain members of the Young Person Community in society in general. And there has been a marked change in how many young people look at ‘authority’ and authority-figures in general. Some teachers at lower grades could give you plenty of horror stories about discipline (or lack thereof) in the classroom and how their authority as teachers has been eroded and not respected. And classes not being interested in learning or listening to the teacher.

NOT ALL young people are this way. But many young people just are not that receptive any more to taking direction from authority figures. (Yes, there always has been an element of ‘rebellion’ in the generations. But something fundamental has changed in recent times to make it harder for teachers (coaches?) to teach.

Only individual teams and players know how much this dynamic has filtered down to the sports program they are specifically involved with. But this factor of whether many players are as coachable as they used to be is an ongoing reality that must be considered going forward in the coach-player relationship. And with players gaining more power and leverage... the coach has been somewhat weakened further in that relationship.

And this is a possible answer to why some coaches might give a little more rope that they should in certain situations. They are trying not to create a wedge between them and the player and they are still trying to motivate them in a good direction. They think that might work.

And maybe ‘Yelling’ by some coaches just might be evidence of someone’s frustration coming out about all this? Just a thought to consider.

Let’s compare his shot to the 2 greatest shooters in basketball history and the guy who has an argument to be the best shooter in UI history at the time of his graduation? Lol
Why would not set a high standard to emulate? Should we copy someone below average? Who ever he using currently is not the answer?

So if BU is focused on searching for other coaching jobs, how is he supposed to re-recruit/meet with our current guys? Is one of the assistants doing that? Should we even trust BU to do this now if he might leave?
