At what point do you admit your offense is bad though if your getting shots your team can’t make?
Yes. The lack of running offense as directed by the coaching staff was absolutely a problem and we were sorely lacking good shots much of the time because of it. The whole point of running offense is to give you a better chance to make shots. Moreover, the simple fact that players were refusing to run said offense as directed was even more problematic.

Agreed. Sir Charles just said great offenses have ball movement and body movement. Izzo said they have too much dribbling at times and need to have more ball movement and cutting. That's our issue in the half court with no pg to run the show and our scheme was so much one on one late in possessions due to lacking movement. One think that drove me crazy a put our team is it seems we have way way too much dribbling and watching. We need a PG and to take a serious look at our scheme in the half court going forward.

I honestly think the kid is just nervous stepping on the line with 15000 people looking at him in complete silence. He will grow out of it. Imma screenshot this post, hopefully it ages well.
Let's talk a little about his form. His technique is rally bad. Let's compare Ray Allen, Steph and why not look at Cory Bradford.

Have you ever noticed that the majority of left handed basketball players are really left handed? They can and do show the the right hand but generally that's all it is, a show, and it's right back to their very dominant hand. It just appears that right handed players by and large are more apt to use their off hand more often. With that being said there are too many players that can't use the correct hand around the rim.
Seems to me the opposite is true, whether in life or in sports…

(Footnote: The reason there are more right-handed switch-hitters in baseball is related to the fact that there are more right-handed pitchers - and righties see an advantage to facing them from the left side of the plate.)

Underwood‘s comments in this article regarding Epps I think puts the blame on the coaches. From BU’s own mouth he prioritized playing fast over running the offense.

“That’s what I talked about at halftime: ‘Just play. Be you.’ He sometimes tries to run offense. I call it the parking brake. He plays with the parking brake on. He’s as fast as anyone in the world. Just go! And use your instincts.”

So, the game plan was?
1. Just play
2. Be you
3. Just go!
4. Use your instincts

Then postgame after the players do that is - wait, not like that. Lol.

Do coaches coach? He was here all summer! Or are all the experts on the forum? Just curious.

I agree with @IllinoisssssssVarsity as far as our sets being basic, but when executed very tough to defend. Under BU, when his teams are patient and running unselfish offense, it getd any shot it wants. If you want to see a lot of sets and actions, watch purdue...wouldn't believe in their loss the other night, but to me Paint must have one the largest playbooks out there.
I remember really liking his Stephen f Austin team. They had a fun offense. I didn't know them well enough to know how much of it was Northrop being a special player, and how much was Brad. Sometimes things don't scale up?

Frustrating year but Coleman pointed out the flaws three months ago after the Virginia game (link below -- see answer at 5:19). Wish those would have been fixed.

Just based on my own eye test, but we can't even make lay-ups or less than 2 ft. shots at an acceptable rate. It's maddening, and it wasn't just this year. It makes me wonder if our "gimme's" are often of a higher degree of difficulty than other teams somehow. Nonetheless, countless times watching our games I was amazed at how many easy 0-2 ft. shots we miss. Now also curious, as someone posted earlier, if it could be related to our strength and conditioning protocols because it hasn't just been this one year.

12th in the country in FG% at the rim this year, 5th among High Majors

I also would like to know how much the coaches work on shot mechanics and form at this stage. I know they practice shooting a lot, but are they actually changing players' mechanics?

My perception is that BU schematics are overly complex. Seems like other NCAA coaches run more basic offenses/defenses.

Saw a team yesterday effectively switch to a zone to stop the isolation plays.

I think this leads to our turnovers, slow starts and ealy season losses/poor games.
Were we watching the same team this year?
More complex offenses are run at the local YMCA . BU could learn some scheming from the Illini ladies.

I've been puzzled for several years watching CH shoot the ball with little to no arc both from the field and FT line. Any Ty and Dain are doing the same thing on his FT's. Seems like that wouldn't be too hard to work on and improve. It's a simple matter of mathematics that there is an optimal arc on a shot to maximize the likelihood of it going thru the hoop cleanly or having the best chance to make it thru after bouncing off the rim and a line drive is not it. Not sure why this hasn't been addressed/worked on. I'm guessing Ty will be much improved in his shooting next year and will be honorable mention all big-10. The kid has the "it factor" to be great.

Agree but you gotta assume Shannon after scoring 17 a game gets better at something in the off-season. Either being able to play with his right hand or consistently hit 3s makes him pretty tough to beat at the college level.
If TJ comes back next year, I think he'll do so as a clear NPOY candidate.
So I think he's coming back.
