Illini Coaching Staff

Sounds like McGarigle (LB coach) is leaving to coach with the Packers. Will be interesting to see who we replace him with, he was one of our Illinois recruiters. Hardy could certainly take over as an LB coach and allow us to pursue a coach for any role, really, but LB coach seems natural. Tough time for him to leave with Spring Ball soon

No qualms with McGarigle leaving, but this is probably a good decision for both parties. Illinois could really use another good recruiter, really need someone who can match (or just come close) to Thad.

Do you have a link for him leaving? Nevermind, found the link

I wrote this in another thread, but this is best for both parties. McGarigle seems like a great fit for the pros and Illinois really needs another recruiter on the staff (Thad Ward clone).

Was McGarigle not already one of our 'crooters on staff? Seemed like Butkus/McGarigle are our local guys and we sent McGee and Ward to do the out of state closing, no?

The guy we should go get is Dameyune Craig who just got let go by Ed Orgeron at LSU. Big time recruiter for Les Miles. He's a WR coach though. There's a way to figure that out.

He had been linked to Oregon and Florida among others so that'd be a tough get. Though that was before he was "fired" and the mudslinging commensed.

Just let him coach TEs, real issue is that's a lot of bodies on O and not a lot on D. I'm also fond of AHS. I really think if there's more shuffling to occur, it'll involve Williams and/or Lig.

Is it a total crackpipe rumor to think he might replace Williams? I'm totally unaware of what Peanut has been up to.

He's just connecting the dots. Definitely a long-shot, but would be an amazing hire that captures plenty of media attention.

I wonder if Tim Spencer will make the jump this time or maybe Gill Byrd who has coached with Lovie in St. Louis, Chicago and Tampa

Time to go to the Ron Turner tree one more time... Is there enough money to bring Tommy Thigpen back to Champaign?

I like that idea, but he seems pretty entrenched at Tennessee. Perhaps the Lovie factor could lure him. He fits the big time recruiter type we need
