I consider it shameful the way Illinois used Barker. I should say, under-used him. Every time he got the ball, great things happened. But we continued to not throw to the tight ends, and our record reflected it. Barker is a better receiver than Ford will ever be, but we'll have to move on.
I mostly agree, but I’m not sure how much was the play calling and how much was the QB’s inability to make progressions, find him, and actually put the ball in a spot where he could catch it. I still hope he comes back, but think we have enough talent at the position to be fine if we fill the other holes.

Petersen did make an adjustment towards the middle of the season with adding the TE screen and the end around. With how limited we were (and still are) at WR, those plays should have been Week 1 features, not a thought that developed later in the season. But that could be why we now have a new offensive coordinator.

I will miss Daniel’s touchdown dances but I won’t miss the unsportsmanlike penalties.

Still feel good about the TE room, but Barker made us a better football team.
Didn't think anything would come close to making me as happy as beating Wisconsin in October 2019. Then Nov. 9th happened. Barker's game winning TD will always be a great Illini Football moment.

Every time I watch that game, McCourt's kick is still good. From the long camera shot, Barry Houser is on his stand right between the goal posts. As soon as I saw him raise his arms, I knew it was good and the game was won.

I would like to thank Barker for his time at Illinois. He could still come back if he decides to as well. The transfer portal at least gives the young man some options.

That being said I don't think Illinois misused him. It goes both ways. Illinois has not had consistent QB play for awhile now. The other part is Barker has had a hard time staying on the field. Barker played in 33 games and started in 16 of them his first 3 seasons. Played in 8 games this season and missed 4 games. Illinois tends to reload/replace at positions at RB and TE routinely. Same thing happened last year and Barker decided to come back. I wish nothing but the best for the young man and if he decides to come back all the better. I like the way BB is building things here at Illinois and I also want players who want to be with the program. I don't look at this as a big loss for the team but next man up....

They say the expect him to play mostly guard to start. That's a really tall guard
He and the Adams kid at the guard spots would make for some monster size road graders. Should make 3rd and one, or the goal line offense a lot more effective.

Adams is pretty much locked in at tackle.

Recruiting him hard!
Regarding Crisler, I've seen it mentioned that he will benefit from our physical training and nutrition programs. Could you comment on both and include what you believe will be his ideal playing weight. Thanks in advance.

Ideal playing weight probably in the 320-335 range. He had a weight program at his JUCO it just isn't as rigid and strict as it would be at the D1 level. He will have everything he needs here to succeed in the S&C areas. JUCOs just don't have the money to spend in that area.
