Illini Football 2022

Alright, time for predictions:

Which Illini player will have the most receiving yards this season?
A better question could be who leads the team in receiving touchdowns...

here's a prediction for receivers and backs

C Brown. 1100
J McCray 600

I. Williams 900yds 5 TD
C Washington 400 4 TD
P Bryant 300 2 TD
L Ford 300 4 TD

After those 4 receivers, I don't expect anyone over 200 yds. Case, Hightower, and Morris, and my sleeper guy... Tip Reiman

Tip is big in the blocking game so, id say he wont catch many passes but I'm tellin ya he's going to be big for us.

Providing we have the running attack we all expect, what are the min stats we need from QB position to exceed expectations (bowl 6-7+wins) this year? I'll go low 3k yards ~20 tds under 7 interceptions.

I think even though we will have a bit more of a spread look from the offense, out run/pass ratio will probably not change that much.

A win from a non-Isaiah WR would be like about 500 Yards and 5 TDs imo. Not that I don't think we have a WR that could surprise(I'm probably more optimistic about our WR Corp than most), but they won't see the field unless they're also a really strong run blocker.

Wyoming coach stirring the pot already...

"Bohl said his counterpart, Bret Bielema, even mispronounced the name of the Illini’s opponent recently.

“It was interesting, and I will show this to our players, sometimes you do lay in the weeds,” Bohl said. “The University of Illinois coach made a statement that they are playing Week 0 and they’re opening up against Wy-ami. And I went, ‘Wy-ami?’

“He said it, it’s going to go up on the bulletin boards, and football is not too far away.”

This has got to be the least bulletin board worthy material ever.

Perhaps next year we should schedule Id-ami, working our way up to Mi-ami.

Ouch, they ranked Northern Illinois 12 teams ahead of us.

College Football News has us #51.
In the 247 preseason rankings Illinois is 12 spots ahead of Wyoming. Wyoming has 1 losing season in last 5-6 years. Wyoming had a huge turnover in the portal this offseason but watch out they added some guys as well from the likes of Bama, USC, Michigan St, etc. Wyoming lost both QBs in the transfer portal so hopefully the guys they did land aren't diamonds in the rough.

in theory , we should win by 14.
that said , watch us win by 3 , with those three points being scored on our last possession

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if we won or lost that game. Wyoming has been way more competitive than us lately. Illinois should ground and pound and put pressure on inexperienced QB situation for them. Guessing the results of an Illinois football game is like playing Roulette. We have some inexperience in areas but hopefully the place will be hopping and the DeVito swagger will be contagious.

I would be surprised if we won or lost by 100 😬

We had an experienced O-Line last year and couldn't keep a QB healthy. I am very optimistic about the roster and love the stable of running backs. I want to see how the O-Line performs early. Good thing with Lunney in place he likes to get the ball out of the QBs hand real fast. That will help inexperience plus give a guy like Williams a chance to make plays in the open field.
