We're getting a small amount of love from the Wolverines Wire: https://sports.yahoo.com/predicting-every-big-ten-team-020307484.html
MGoBlog has a thorough analysis of Michigan's opponents and those B1G teams (all in the West) it isn't playing. All three are well worth reading. They also have a series of posts (The Enemy Ranked) about their opponents by position if you really want to get into the weeds

I was at a fantasy football draft last night that included some Michigan fans who love to talk trash. One of them was trying to be dismissive of Illinois by saying they would only win 6 games I didn't respond because the conversation moved on but later I was thinking we must be doing something right if the trash talk from other teams makes 6 wins look like a bad season.

Agree. I mean, I'm not dancing in the aisles after a 6 win season, but I'm also not insanely disappointed. For me, it's probably more:

Overall I tend to agree. 6-6 and a bowl game is generally a good year based on our standards the last few decades. That said, with the positive momentum we have and what likely will be a very tough schedule next year after remapping, I think 6-6 this year would be a missed opportunity, similar to 2002 and 2008.

When you have a fanbase that is just so used to disappointment to the point where they almost expect it whenever anything good happens, I think this season somewhat needs to be better than 6-6. Continue that forward momentum by having a good if not great season and start seeing if we can use that momentum to start flipping and getting interest from big time recruits. Because as we all unfortunately know, you miss your chance, that window just might not open again for another 5-10 years. 6-6 is a good season for us most years, just not this one in my opinion.

I’m so starved for college football that I’ll read every and any too-early projection, which is kind of the point of these things. Preseason bowl projections are never even directionally accurate, but it’s nice to see the beloved mentioned in the hypotheticals. Ah…relevance. Thank you, BB.

he could still be right. Maybe Ryan Walters was the reason for Illinois success.......guess we'll find out
You seem like one to be pessimistic and proudly classify it as “realism,” but Bielema’s proven results in the Big Ten started way before Walters. And you can choose to believe otherwise, but I’d bet they continue after him, as well.

Joel Goodson

respect my decision™
We haven't seen him play yet, but am getting a good vibe from Daxon. Looks like another under the radar find by our staff. Ultimately, the coaches make the call, but the recruiting staff deserves a lot of credit. Kids like Resetich and Hollinger come to mind, along with Daxon.

can't believe I left Bailey and Hollins off this list. ugh

FWLIW, I think Carlos Orr is another great find.

This clearly doesn't belong here, but I can't create a thread and it's a conference opponent and former Illinois coach...

Mike Locksley's sone had CTE when he died in 2017 and they only just opened up about it now. Sad but interesting read.

Thanks for posting that. I'm a big fan of Locks, as I'm sure many of us are, for his contributions to our program. Now that he's nearby in DC I hear a lot about him from Maryland fans. Had no idea about his son.

My daughter's studying biomedical engineering at Virginia Tech. On one of our first campus visits a couple years ago I learned of the university's helmet lab, which the biomed engineering department runs. It's apparently world-renowned for research into helmet safety across sports including football, ice hockey, lacrosse, snow sports, etc... Each time I walk past it now (the sidewalk enables one to look in the windows into the basement lab) I think of CTE, all those who have suffered and died from it, and the contributions engineers are making to headgear safety.

Indeed, I hear about VA Tech's Helmet Lab quite frequently in the world of cycling helmets.
