Based on odds to win the 2024 Natty, the top 8 and 10 of 11 are either BIG or SEC. FSU is the exception. Welcome to the Power 2 conference world.

Illinois to Celebrate Memorial Stadium 100th Anniversary in 2024

Memorial Stadium is 100 years old...and looks like a 100 year old stadium, and it looks like one. It's a 1920's design. My high school was built in 1920 and though it doesn't have the 1.2 million bricks, it's the red brick building you might expect. And incidentally, I've had a lot of people say the like the design, even more than Beaver Stadium (PSU), and that's from PSU fans.

That said, Memorial Stadium is 100 years old. The Assembly Hall is 60 years old. That's disconcerting for someone (me) who came to U of I two years after it was completed. But that said, it looks as modern, indeed classier, that most new arenas that are flashy just to look flashy. The Assembly Hall was an engineering marvel when it was built and it still is today.

Someone put together a graph of B1G attendance and, since we've had discussions on here recently about attendance, thought it was worth sharing:

Even if we sell out every game we will be in the bottom 1/3. And maybe that’s not a big deal. It is kind of amazing to see what the big 3 do. And Nebraska without have a decent team in years.

According to Google maps, it's a 26 mile drive from campus to the Rose Bowl. I have no idea if that matters in southern California.
That matters. It also isn't necessarily the miles, it's what's required to cover those miles. According to Google Maps, it would take nearly an hour to get from Westwood to the Rose Bowl right now. Longer if taking the 405 (I hope to never ever be on the 405 again).

fwiw, they currently have a student body somewhat similar to ours , with demographics that are not as drawn to football, as say Nebraska . things have changed in the past 40 years for them as well as for us

we went out there for the game on 9-13-03 .
Pasadena is awesome .
but it has nothing in common with Westwood and our impression of their fanbase was they were all friendly genteel country clubbers that wore Tommy Bahama style fan clothes . very nice people but not like most hardcore fans at B10 games .

the location of the Rose Bowl certainly keeps a lot of students away , but I simply doubt it would change dramatically even if located on campus , which it never will be .

I'm remembering Malfunction Junction possibly playing into, too.

Welcome to 2024 college football when you're surprised someone doesn't transfer, but I just now realized Josh McCray is still here. Had kinda written him off as looking for a fresh start.

yea, I forgot about him
he either has been told he's got a realistic chance at minutes this fall or he is waiting until after spring practices to make a final decision.

I think he's a Coach B fave. Kinda like the Zooker and Admiral Halsey.
