Yeah. I tend to think coaches, especially recent coaches, tend to make better color men than ex-players. They really know how to communicate and teach concepts.

That's why I miss that they don't have the coaches film room during the CFP on one of the ESPN channels anymore. Was able to get a lot of good X's and O's breakdown for what was happening.

Madden was also drafted. Although like 10th round. Didn’t realize this, although checked out his bio as his name was first I thought of. Always had known him as a coach.

Actually he was drafted even later than that. Was drafted in 21st round of the 1958 NFL Draft (interestingly enough former Purdue coach Gene Keady was drafted a couple rounds ahead of him) by the Eagles. The draft was 30 rounds back then which seems like a lot but you have to remember there were only 12 teams back then. Never ended up playing in a professional game after he suffered a knee injury during an Eagles team scrimmage in August 1959.

Never knew Keady played football. I think that could partly explain his coaching style…. And also the helmet hair combover… which had nothing on the Lou-Do.

Perhaps unknown to this board, but petros papadakis is terrific at explaining X’s and O’s, knowing personal tidbits about the players and coaches, history of the teams involved, while inserting some clever humor. He’s a USC alumn, but kinda had a falling out because he openly criticized what sc football had become, so he’s honest. If they make amends maybe we can see or hear him on some big 10 games. Currently does big 12 and mountain west mainly, in addition to his fantastic radio show, all on fox… so maybe there’s a chance

Yeah I like Papadakis. Reminds me a bit of Dan Dakich on the basketball side, a big personality and distinct voice that can be kind of a lot, but he really knows ball and makes the game engaging.

Given the dissolution of the Pac 12, USC's move to the B1G. and Fox's relationship with the BTN, I would bet he'll be involved in Big Ten broadcasts in some fashion going forward.

There's no sugar coating it, the current level of game production for football on BTN is atrocious (its so much worse than basketball, which is strange), so good new talent can only help.
