Illini Golf 2025-2026

Early at Eugene but oh, boy. Boise State leading? C'mon. Get serious, Illinois. That's golf, I guess.

Max on top of the leaderboard as round 2 is underway! Solid round by Freddie as well helping get the Illini into 4th.

Surprisingly rough round by Dane, shooting an 80 while playing a couple hours from home. Ethan had a rough back nine as well.

And then we look up and see our Illini with the only red number, up by 6 strokes. Things have returned to normal.

Max at one point had two bogies and a double, but rallied with five birdies on his final eight holes to close the round and share the lead. Hopefully this is the turnaround point for him, definitely need him to get back to form for the spring!

I do wonder if the team flew went home after Puama Valley or went directly to Eugene. Seems like the latter would make more sense given the quick turnaround...

I was wondering too. Made more sense to stay out west for spring break.

Eugene is rearing its ugly head in this one. Or should I say beautiful head. This is one of those courses that anybody that has played it just gushes over. Majestic parkland course from what I have been told with massive ancient trees everywhere. Wonder if the kids actually know how lucky they are to play the slate of courses these teams do.

Rough first round, surprisingly so. Dane is getting slaughtered out there, didn't have that on my bingo card. Ethan recovered from a pretty rough start, nerves after getting the shot to count?? Tied with Max, Ryan and others for the low second round at -2. That should do him wonders. Piggy back on that with a solid third round and fight your way into the top 10. Ultra solid play from Ryan and Trey, keeping the floor from falling too far. Freddie is becoming a bit of go low one of the rounds of the tournament type of weapon. That is huge for the team. His -4 first round saved this team. Overall showed real maturity and depth and just plugged away. Many teams can have a good round but keeping it together over the course of 3 is a much more difficult task.

I think Coach knows the team he just wants to motivate guys to be the best come tournament time. This field is stacked and we’re playing ok. Dane has a hole in one! Double by Freddie hurt our momentum bad

Looks like Jake is getting the start this weekend in Bloomington, joining Max, Ryan, Trey and Dane. Freddie and Ethan will compete as individuals. Final tune-up before the B10 Championship, we will be the highest-ranked team but still a decent field with a few teams ranked in the 40s (Kansas, Purdue, NW).

Coach may not be there, as he will be in Florida competing at the Senior PGA Championship. Best of luck to coach AND the boys!

I mean, with that performance last time Jake certainly seems like he earned this
