Illini Golfers in the Pros

#151
only Campbell and Hardy are playing golf this Sunday. Campbell has had a couple of nice 65s sandwich an even par 71, but he needs to go lower then a 65 today to get a high finish and kick his late season push. Its a tall order but glimpses of good form have peaked through.

Hardy on the other hand is in line for another top 5 finish, currently solo third and 5 strokes back of the lead. A sparkling two day stretch of 63-64 has catapulted him up the leaderboard. Nick has been absolutely incredible during this wrap around season. No wins, No 2nds, 1 third and he is locked into the top 25. He has had 18 top 25s out of the 32 tournaments. Over half the time he tees it up he is in the top 25. After today he will most likely have his tenth top 10. So much consistent quality play is really unique and he is going to be a money maker on the PGA tour with this form., Can't wait to follow him going forward.
Sounds like the next Matt kuchar. Doesn't win a lot maybe, but always relevant

I don't know about Kuchar, he has won 9 times that is actually quite a nice career. that would be fantastic though.

Just noticed Nick Hardy made the cut at Korn Ferry event but withdrew. Hope he's OK. Couldn't find any explanation.

yikes, hope whatever it is that it's minor. Covid?

Brian Campbell had a nice round today but needs another good one to have a nice finish.

Illinois guys playing all over this week.

Pieters in Germany on European tour. Tadiotto +1 and Lipparelli +2 on Challenge Tour.

Guthrie -2 today on Korn Ferry. Campbell +3. Feagles making the cut on Forme tour but not Meyer.

Too bad about Hardy but he should have done enough to get his tour card.

Sticker 9 shots ahead of the field midway through the third round at Bridgestone. Shot 63 in the first round.

Mike Small is scheduled to play in the Illinois Senior PGA Championship 6/28,29 at Royal Fox in St. Charles. I might just attend to watch him in action - if it's open to the public.

Good luck, Coach Small.

Steve Stricker: hold on, come back strong tomorrow.

GO ILLINI!

Questions: how much will Steve Strickers' caddie make today? And why do some players wrap sunglasses around their caps? Looks stupid, a la David Toms and others. Akin to wearing cap bill backwards.

I fear Steve is choking again. Hope not.

No choke. Way to go Steverino!

P.S, I have choked a few times in the field, NEVER at bat! I'm a swinger! But I don't switch-hit.

ILLINI IN NE

Omaha,Ne.
US Senior Open will be in Omaha again this year and I'm going to the practice round tomorrow and the first round on Thursday. Practice rounds are a lot less crowded and the players interact more with the fans. I'm going to give Stricker an ILL and hope to get an INI back.

Well I was a little disappointed on Monday when I found out Stricker was playing in the John Deere. He needs a few more birdies today to get above the cut line.

Detry having a good two days at the Scottish open... -9 in 3rd place

Thomas Detry: beat Rahm!

Pieters at -2 last time I looked.

Stricker well behind and Feagles might not make the cut at John Deere. But GO ILLINI! Play well. What a thrill it must be for Feagles.

Detry tied with Rahm right now for the lead, according to Golf Channel coverage. I just wish announcers would mention U of I once.

So glad to see Thomas Detry playing so well. He's got the makings of a star, a fan favorite. Above all, he appears to be so friendly to the fans. I remember that about him when I met him at 2016 Arnold Palmer Cup at Rich Harvest Farms. I said something stupid like "my name's Thomas, too!" He was amused by that insightful comment.

From this Thomas to Illini Thomases playing in Scottish Open: best of luck. And if one of you wins, just look directly into the camera and say: "I-L-L" during the interview.

And go Steverino at John Deere Classic.

Detry has been tough as nails so far today. Had a bogey on the second but has responded with clutch putt after clutch putt. this could be the week.
