Illini Golfers in the Pros

Solid first round for Detry at the Scottish! Good warm up for next week's Open. I assume Nick will also be flying over to play in Liverpool
What's nice about the Scottish is it's now a co-sanctioned PGA Tour/DP World event, so a win would reflect that on both tours. Detry finished top 5 at the Scottish last year, which in part allowed him to play in the Korn Ferry Tour finals and get his PGA Tour card. Good to see him playing well again!

Hardy did not qualify for the Open - only the Top 50 in the world were exempt, and he's still around 150. Detry qualified via sectionals, and Pieters via his DP World Tour standing last year. I'm guessing Hardy will play in Reno next week since they have a concurrent PGA Tour event.

Lots of Illini in action this weekend across 5 total tournaments:

Stricker is in the lead (again) on the Champions tour
ADDC and Brian Campbell both started strong on KFT, with Feagles just starting his day
D.A. Points is T72 at -1, looking to make the cut at the Barbasol Championship
Kuhl bounced back from +2, currently even par thru 6 in Quebec

Where did Pieters go? He's not even in the WD column. Yesterday he finished at 6 under, one off the lead, today nowhere to be found, unless I am blind.

Looks like Detry settled down after the rough start, but never fully recovered. Finished +2 for the day, dropping to T30. He will play the weekend, and is actually only six strokes off the lead, so a strong start tomorrow could put him back in the mix.

the LIV, never to be heard of again.
To be fair, I was staring at the pgatour.com website leaderboard all day and they did not have Pieters in the rankings. Don't know what the problem was today.

Two big results last weekend:

Steve Stricker won the Senior Players Championship, his third major of the year (out of six total I think). He qualifies for next years Players Championship and continues a very impressive run in the Champions Tour.

ADDC finished T6 in the Korn Ferry Tour, making it 4-for-4 top 10 finishes as a pro. That's just incredible - I've said before that making his first four CUTS would've been an achievement, but top 10's? He's probably locked in his tour card by now, but maybe he'll make a run at the #1 spot, which carries extra benefits.

Congrats to Steve and Adrien, and best of luck to the rest this weekend, especially the Thomases who will tee off at The Open.
