He has some measurables, and some skills and abilities that translate to the NBA. I highly doubt he's a 1st rounder right now, and he may never be, but he has a decent chance to end up on a NBA roster as is.

How long he stays on a roster is the real question . He might find himself on a lower than NBA level pro league

For every 12:51, there are a lot of 19:02’s that make me shake my head. Don’t get me wrong, I hope he goes and has a Hall of fame career, I just see too many times where he is not quite there yet.

NBA HoF level is a little different expectation. But he's got an ability to get us into our transition game from the 5 that translates really well. And you don't cringe when he gets switched onto a smaller guy. We will see.

Most recent mock I can find (Bleacher Report) has Terrence Shannon Jr. going 2-35 and Coleman Hawkins going 2-37.

Coleman did say something about coming back to Illinois for his "last year" so I suspect he is going to go Pro no matter what. He has an NBA skillset, he just needs to be more consistent in his game. The game against Ohio State he certainly looked like an NBA player.

I'll say I hope CoHawk proves me wrong and has a 10 yr NBA career and makes a boatload of $$ but I don't see anything in his game that translates to an NBA career. Not a perimeter scorer, not an inside scorer. Not a high level ballhandler/playmaker. He's an active perimeter defender, decent rebounder, but is mostly a garbageman type offensive player. I guess that's why the scouts make the big bucks.
He can have a long NBA career by simply fixing his three point shooting. Basically a 3&D guy who can rebound and pass some. The only realistic way IMO.

I hope you're right. As it stands his shot is very flat, which doesn't create much margin for error. If he can adapt and put more arc on the shot that would give it a better chance.

I did not say he will fix his shot... I just described a what-if. Given enough developmental time, I think he can be a decent 3 point shooter (like 35%.) The question is whether he will have that much time in NBA. Ayo shot better then Coleman in college and that translated to NBA. Coleman's current 3PT% is not translatable. I suspect he needs to stay in G league for at least a year or two.

Weird thing about the NBA now is they draft so much on potential, I actually think it’s pretty hard to come back and improve your stock (like say Johnny Newton for the NFL) because at some point your age is used against you. So in Coleman’s case, say he did come back next year and was more consistent (ie performs like he did against OSU in almost every game) and improves his 3 pt % to say, 35/37%, I’m not sure his stock would actually be that much higher because he’s a year older.

Not saying it makes sense, and I do think there is some mis valuation going on (ie Ayo, Fred VanVleet, lots of others) but potential is a big part of draft stock these days, and the NBA views the potential of a 22 YO and a 19 YO quite differently.

I think Coleman goes. I’d be surprised if he isn’t at least a second rounder but falling short of that, think he would get a two way deal.

I looked up Matt Meyer on the draft boards and some have him as a possibility at the end of the 2nd round. When he's been healthy and in shape he's been pretty impressive. I don't think it was a coincidence that he was hardly involved in the blow out against Indiana.

It looks like this is a summer league (April - June) that should keep Trent in game shape and hopefully let him continue to hone his game.

Based on the Google translation of a story on the team's website, Trent had contact with los Leones prior to his 5th year but chose to stay at UIUC:

Point guard Trent Frazier is chosen by the Leones de Ponce with the second round in the New Entry Draw. Frazier has NCAA experience where he spent five seasons with the University of Illinois and is currently playing with FMP Meridian in Serbia.

"For our part, the opportunity to convert the shift into two pieces, we understood it was the best move for the franchise, it gives us a natural forward who comes from his best season and a Trent Frazier who did very well in Illinois and is doing it even better in Serbia posting averages of 20.7 points with sky-high ERA, 57% from 2 points, 45.7% from free throw and 80.4% from free throw, and 6 assists per game. In 2021, when we also had the first shift, we talked to him and he even sent his application to enter the Sweepstakes, but he ended up deciding to return to Illinois for another year. Now we were given the opportunity, he sent us the eligibility papers and the application for admission, and this time we were able to select him, ”said Gabriel Ortiz.

I gotta believe that a 6'9 wing that really likes to block shots, can guard 1-4 and has no problem whatsoever with creating his shot would find a seat somewhere. He's not mid-range dependent and he's crafty. I mean, I'd take him and I don't think that's all blue and orange glasses. His age is probably the biggest knock on him, I would think?

The reason he was hardly involved in the blowout against Indiana, according to reports at least, is because he was dealing with the flu.

I don't know if Mayer gets drafted but I could see him sticking on an NBA roster as a 3-and-D guy.

While I think it's a possibility that both of them gets drafted, it's worth remembering that the later you get in the 2nd round, teams start picking a lot more overseas players that are draft-and-stash guys that may never end up playing here.

So about them Bulls…this team needs to be blown up. If the playoffs started today the Bulls wouldn’t even make the play-in tournament. Time to make some moves (and hang onto Ayo)

it’s way past the time for
McCaskeys to sell the Bears
and
Reinsdorf to sell the Sox & Bulls

I really don’t see much changing on the field or court until we get new ownership on all three teams .

While I think Rocky Wirtz should also sell , it will never happen anytime soon .
