Where does one find a women’s bb coach capable of turning a program into a winning program? Illinois has tried three very different coaches since Grentz. Each has had a record worse than their predecessor.

Whitman has to do something I would think. I’m sure the budget situation is not good, but this is an embarrassment. Hard to believe we could actually be worse next year.

Perplexing. JW has boxed himself in here by sitting on his hands and doing nothing for weeks. If he does something now he'll be behind in the carousel at the worst possible time.

He extended her contract through the 24-25 season just last year. Assures her a big payday no matter what.

He hasn’t sat on his hands at all. In fact, he doubled down and said he’s happy about the future with Fahey.

4 more years? 35-79 overall record and 6-64 Big Ten record...plus multiple players in the transfer portal.

I know JW has history with Fahey and believes she is a talented coach, but the program trajectory is not going up. Either he thinks she will somehow amazingly turn things around, and/or he doesn't care much about women's bball in the scope of all the UI sports. Surprising either way.

I think it's two things. He doesn't care for one. And he's going to give every coach that he personally hires 5 years regardless.

I doubt he doesn't care, but he has a lot on his plate that he probably thinks is more important. Still, the contract extension is a little puzzling.

Yes...if BRucks is correct that Fahey's contract now runs through 24-25....that's 4 additional years for a coach who has only won 6 B10 games in 4 years. Puzzling indeed. You're probably right though, he's gotta care.

Kinda indicative of College Women's Sports.....If you have 600 in the seats it's a success. Soccer has more players than fans, same with measly softball, etc. WNBA a constant bleed of money.....I think JW is kinda aloof about it, yes it's a concern, but he has a personal connection to Fahey....no reason to change, since no interest from fans anyway.

Nobody cares about Women's BB; we may as well put our effort into programs where we have had success such as VB or soccer or softball

For those of us who do care, is there any word on players in the portal moving toward us? Seems like a nearly
certain opportunity for playing time.

I'm very glad Whitman didn't double down with a program that counts. That said, he's totally crapped the bed here. Sincerely hope he's learned from this debacle.

Yes, Kendall Bostic will join us next year after leaving Michigan State. She was a freshman this year out of Indiana. Played sparingly at MSU.

New assistant Scott Merritt has resigned to take a similar pos
ition at Wisconsin. He had been here one year.

This is a complete dumpster fire. JW should be embarrassed by the situation.

JW- are you going to let this continue? There are d3 schools better. Hell, there may be high school teams better

Idk their names, but signed a couple transfers. Duke and MSU. Not sure either is a game changer, but really hoping she can get this moving the right direction.

Edit: Maybe I misheard, but I thought that’s what Steve Kelly reported. Can’t find a link.

This is going to be Sara Anastasieska's 4th collegiate stop of her career.

Illinois

She's from Australia, so perhaps she simply wants to live in as many places as she can in the US.

I grew up an illini fan who attended drake. Drake HC was available when Fahey was hired, but now she's at Oklahoma. Now the Missouri state coach didn't build the program but Harper now its Amala Agugua-Hamilton has their program continue to roll. Agugua-Hamilton would be my top candidate for reaching Fahey, when Whitman starts to care about every smaller program because mbb and football are in good hands.

They paid their last coach Nikki Fargas 712,000, which I believe is close to what Fahey is making. Can you see Whitman doing something like that for women's basketball? I mean, you could argue Mulkey is one of the top 3 coaches in womens basketball but paying 2.5 mil for a coach in a sport that could never be profitable is crazy.
