I’m not so sure about a lot of minutes coming back....Nye, Amusan, Peebles, Brown and Porter all entered the transfer portal.
Any chance any can be persuaded to stay by the newb coach? Who would we want to stay?

Anyone know what the state of the Dayton womens program was at Dayton when she took control? Was it a rebuild?

The team went 26-6 and 14-1 in the Atlantic 10 this past season. The team were Atlantic 10 champions five out of the past six years under Green. The team went 127-50 (.718) overall and 79-13 (.859) in the conference under Green's leadership. She led the team to four NCAA tournaments, but the team never got past the first round.

Nye can shoot, but there were very few players who took themselves seriously as athletes last season. Skipping every extra workout and shoot opportunity isn't a trait Coach Green is gonna lean real hard into.
Lopes, Bostic, Mckinze, and the incoming kids if properly motivated will as is finish top half of the Big next year.

My word on whether the new kids still plan to attend? How about assistant coaches?

With the new world of the transfer portal, all the transfers out gives Coach Green a terrific opportunity to reshape the program in one or two years rather than three or four years to get her own types of players into the program. I wonder if any of our women entering the transfer portal, if they change their mind, might be told “thanks but no thanks.”

Every Assistant is gone. Gio Lopes wants to play as a super senior, Jada Peebles was originally recruited by Coach Green and is really looking for a team with (family) feel.. likely to stay, Nye likely stays (really who has a better engineering program than UofI) sure the rest are gone.

Brown was checked out 10games in, the Amusen and Porter dont fit into the new (we actually gonna work at this thing) program.

Peebles, Oden, Lopes, Rembert, McKenzie, Nye, Bostic, plus four recruits is 11. That leaves two available scholarships. Peebles, McKenzie, Nye and Bostic were starting at the end of the season. Dayton's Magassa entered the transfer portal shortly after Green announced she was coming to Illinois. She is 6'5" and started for Dayton at the end of the year. If Magassa is following Green she would be a help.

Good question. It looks like Magassa and Cook would be good pickups.
Cook is also now in the portal. She's a 5'6" guard who will be a junior this fall. She was ranked the #82 high school recruit by Prospect Nation. She averaged 14.6 PPG this past season. Hopefully, both Magassa and Cook will follow Green to Illinois.

General question to Illini fanbase -

If Illinois gets things turned in the right direction, maybe somewhere short of the volleyball program or on the level of the Grentz teams, what do you see as the ceiling for the Illini program? Will we be drawing 5,000 to SFC? More, less? Will we be NCAA team about 60-70 pct of the time?

I watch a ton of high school girls basketball in Illinois and certainly don't see any reason Illinois couldn't be an NCAA team most years. Just curious what everyone sees as the upside future of a program that has struggled for so, so long.

We drew well during the better Grentz years - sometimes in the 3000s. That's part of the reason that the team moved to the Assembly Hall.

Jud Heathcote famously said once...the good news is we have everyone back this year. The bad news is we have everyone back this year. Apologies to Jud if I didn't get that exactly right but ya get the idea.
One year in the early '90s, there were no seniors on the All-Big Ten team and every guy returned the following season (those were the days!). Glenn Robinson was also coming off Prop 42. So the preseason All-Big Ten team the next year included four guys from the previous year's postseason list and the Big Dog. Mike Peplowski of Michigan State was the odd man out. On media day, someone asked Jud why his guy was left off. He retorted, "I don't know. Maybe they thought he died."

Weren’t they forced to move to the Assembly Hall because of Title 9? Women were supposed to play in the same the same arena as men. I don’t think Grentz wanted to move because of the home court advantage at Huff.

What happened to her? She was terrific in high school. Just checked her ND stats. She did real well as freshman but fell off the map this year.

I think injuries have derailed her career, but her shooting numbers sure look like they fell off a cliff, as well. She was a dynamic high-school player, for sure.

She was terrific playing against small Class A schools.
