And thank you too, Dan for posting schedule and TV times. The interest in the Illini Women & B1G Basketball continues to grow. Great to see the packed house for the game at Indiana yesterday. Coach Green & Staff & Players make the Illini's progress an enjoyable compelling journey to watch.

What’s it going to take (record wise) to still make the tourney. Would we be better off in the WNIT?
Somebody besides our top 4 needs to step up!

12-4 over their last 16, at minimum.

No, it's never better to be in the NIT than the NCAAT. I don't care if we lost by 25. The national exposure, by itself, makes the season a huge success given where we came from just two years ago. Have to show consistently.

12-4 not very likely. I guess I’d be ok with a final four NIT considering where we stand right now.

Team started terrible then played well to the end. They just could not stop Indiana 6'3" Holmes who went off for 30 points. Great effort by the team who looked listless vs Michigan and Notre Dame.

We still don't pass as well as other B10 teams so we don't get the easy back door buckets or wide open 3's.

Bollin was in the game early but did not do much. Shauna is still very reluctant to user her bench or newcomers so our starters were exhausted by end of game. I would love to see Dolan get more playing time early to rest the starters.

This team does not have the same hunger for respect that they had last year!!! They have more talent but yet they play like teams in the past. They have lost that dog mentality that they played with last year

Laynie Smith, a 6’4” volleyball pin hitter who has signed a letter of intent to play for Illinois next year, and who played in the UnderArmour All-American game today, put on her bio information the fact she would like to play both volleyball and basketball next year. I don’t know what kind of basketball player she might be, but she is a terrific athlete and an exceptional volleyball player, as evidenced by the fact she played in volleyball’s version of the MacDonald AA game.

Have we had anyone play both sports before? If she does play both, which sport issues the scholarship?

#12
Women’s basketball gets 15, volleyball 12, I don’t think basketball has used all 15, and volleyball is always at the limit of 12. On the other hand, if she signed a volleyball letter of intent I’m sure her scholarship will count against volleyball, at least next year.

Viliunas played basketball her senior year after volleyball season was over. The basketball team was really short on numbers, if I recall correctly they didn’t have 10 for practice scrimmages. Didn’t play a lot, but played and was appreciated.

What’s it going to take (record wise) to still make the tourney.

All about resume and the number of teams on the bubble

Last season bubble teams

Illinois was 11-7 in conference, 1-1 in conference tourney and got in at 22-9
Purdue was 9-8 in conference, 1-1 in conference tourney and got in at 19-10
Kansas was 9-9 in conference, 0-1 in conference tourney and went to WNIT(won it) at 19-11

We had the luxury of a cakewalk non-conference schedule last season and except for the Iowa game we beat no team at .500 or above in conference last season (lost to Purdue by 10).

I think they could possibly make it at 11-7 in conference and 17-11 overall. It comes down to what quality wins do we have during the season, how many conference tourney games we win, etc. I try to look at it in small quarters of the schedule now. Next 4 opponents vs Wisconsin, at Nebraska, at Northwestern and vs Rutgers. Wisconsin, Northwestern and Rutgers are must wins. That Nebraska game should be a gauge of where we stand......they are improved from last season. Time to see if we can step up or playing at the same level as last season.

Would we be better off in the WNIT?
Never

I am not going to be down if we make the WNIT but the tournament is always the goal. This is basically the same team we had last season with a more difficult non-conference schedule this season. I think the main frustration the casual fan has is the whole starting 5 is back and they were looking for a big step up this season with a top 25 pre-season ranking. Bubble team last season based on result and think we were the same coming into this season. Either way am proud of the ladies and sometimes you have to go through some learning curves when not use to winning. (JMO but think next season we take a jump up off the bubble)

Thanks for the great reply. I know I was thinking we would be much improved with another years experience and the newcomers. I'm disappointed with the newcomers so far. I thought Hobby was going to really help. Still could happen. I hope. Losing Cook before the Marquette game really hurt. Seems like she is just now getting back to playing like the all conference player we know she is. Dolan and Allen show promise. Bolin not so much yet.

Who is this Bolin player you mention? I can't find her on the roster.

Hobby is a huge upgrade over BSH who has seemingly regressed. Once Hobby and Bostic learn to play together, I think we'll see a big improvement.

Not sure what's going on with Brynn. Last year she played 25 minutes per game, shot .40 on threes and averaged 5.6 rebs. This year she is down to 18 minutes, .27 on threes and 3.3 rebounds. She seems very hesitant to shoot. Confidence?

Illinois lacked any kind of depth and talent in the post last season. Outside of Bostic, we only had Shoup-Hill. We were forced to play Dewey, Ndour and Lopes because of injuries. Coach Green played 5'10 McKenzie at the 4 spot a number of games.

Flash to this season.....outside of Bostic we have Shoup-Hill and Hobby.

Shoup-Hill is a post player with no low post offensive game. She might get some putbacks but for most part is a perimeter player. Defensively I think she is average. I actually enjoy Shoup-Hill on this team but never been sold she is a quality Big Ten starter. Shoup-Hill/Hobby split that time. I was bit surprised Hobby wasn't going to start this season but I get it. Shoup-Hill plays her role.....no fault on her for that but we are just lacking big bodies. If Shoup-Hill and Hobby were coming off the bench than it would mean we have more talent/depth.

We have some decent players on this team who haven't developed at the collegiate level......hopefully just so far
