Present and future is bright for this program...few things I noticed

I don't know how most of the FR are developing this season. I will say Jackson got cleared from injury months ago and so it is a learning curve catching up. I look for her to catch up more in the offseason and play more next season. If we can get a few of these ladies to develop all the better. Genesis Bryant and Brynn Shoup-Hill are proof that having some talent and given a chance to play they can make positive contributions.

Genesis Bryant averaged 2 pts/gm in first 2 seasons in limited time. Comes to Illinois this season averaging just under 30 mins/gm and 15.5 pts

Brynn Shoup-Hill averaged 6 mins/gm and 1.8/pts a game last season. Comes to Illinois this season averaging just under 25 mins/gm with 6.6 pts and 5.3 rebs

Unless some shocking moves take place we have the starting lineup from this team back next season. Throw in if Jackson 5'11 can develop this offseason along with two good recruits in Allen 5'10 and Dolan 5'11 coming in. We will be real good in the 1-3 spots.

The main thing will be depth at the 4-5 spots. If anyone develops on the current roster that would be great but Illinois needs to add at least one big body that can play immediately. Bostic is a beast and I have been impressed with Shoup-Hill. I like that Shoup-Hill can extend her game away from the basket. Having another body that has an inside game would be nice but more so on the defensive end. There have been times Bostic/Shoup-Hill come out of the game and usually someone like Adalia McKenzie has to play out of position at the 4 spot at 5'10 on the defensive end.

I know the staff is recruiting the next class hard and sure they have a plan setup for this offseason. Great time when I am excited for what the ladies have done this season and already looking forward to next season also!

Not sure about total numbers in portal — like you I’d guess less than men — but still active. Coach Green brought two players from Dayton who start — Cook and Shoup-Hill — as well as Genesis from NC St. Ndour was also a JC transfer this year. Transfers on this team prior to Coach Green are Bostic from MSU and Lopes from a JC. So it would appear that help can certainly be found in portal.

I’m curious about the freshmen currently on the roster (familiar with 2 incoming next year). Is there some future help there? I’ve seen Camille Jackson’s named mentioned here a few times — think she might be hurt — but not much on the others. Any thoughts on development possibilities for Jackson, Rhodes (who I see SG flipped from Dayton), Taponen, and Dewey?
Rhodes has some potential. She's a little squirt like Cook with nice handles. Not afraid to challenge bigger players. Dewey could get a little play down the road( think Lopes). Taponen isn't likely to contribute imo. I hope that we can recruit better players than any of them.

All options are being closely monitored and the fact that we are winning and getting attention will help create interest in the program. Then you combine a great staff with a state of the art practice facility and you should have recruiting success.
I am sorry for my ignorance but does the Women team use the same state of art practice facilities as the Men ?

So, no chance she's the female Markkanen?

there is a womens side and a mens side, with all the things both teams need , and can share, in the middle. each program has the same benefits in there

Random thought I had in the last month or two when I saw Green pushing for bigger crowds. I would love to see AD Whitman work his magic and make this happen!

I know a lot of smaller conferences do this but wonder if any thoughts on doing a doubleheader back to back games with the women and men's bball schedule sometime in the future. Could even do it in non-conference play vs a lower tier team or random IL team once a year. This would be a great marketing tool to get more exposure to the women but also might bring in a few more bodies that have to travel farther for the game and enjoy two of them. One price whether you show up to both, one, etc.

Didn't they do that years ago with the Bragin Rights game?

Yes and no

Think they played 3 men/women Braggin' Rights games in St Louis in the early 2000s during the same time. The first one pretty sure the ladies played the day before and the other two they played the same day.

About the other and both playing at Assembly Hall the same day shouldn't be a big problem. Think would be a neat idea and could pick a random Illinois school each year however big or small they wanted.

Sounds like a good idea. Not sure how to handle reserved seating. If you have the same season ticket seat for men's basketball as I have for women's basketball, who gets the seat for these two games?

I know that they do this for most collegiate track meets now. Both men and women compete in the same meet. You do hear complaining about the length of the meets which can stretch to two days.

Obviously going over the back on rebounds is ok, both ways. They are just not calling it. Find it rather amusing that they are so obviously not calling it on both teams. Good game again for us, balance scoring and defense keeps us in the game.

Only 8 fouls on each team through 3 quarters. We are up 53-45.

Sheesh, Micheaux absolutely dominated us inside. We had no answers. Thankfully we pulled out a game we couldn't afford to lose, 69-62. Cook with a big 8 points in the final 1:30 to help ice the game. McKenzie has been phenomenal as of late with another stat-stuffing performance: 20pts, 9reb, 2 ast. Nebraska is going to be a big one. Need it for the double-bye in the B1G Tournament and give us another quad 1 win for our NCAA Tournament resume.
