Maybe they’re saving it for the tournament. Nerve wracking as a fan to watch at times though.
We just aren’t strong (muscular) on the inside so opposing guards and bigs both have an easy time attacking in close.

Minny hit some shots that won’t always fall but that seems to be every team against us. We don’t get in their heads, imo. Teams are comfortable shooting against us.

Seems most teams are on fire against us!? I watched some replays and don't feel we are playing that awful on D and yet teams still hit their contested shots against us. Let's hope whoever we play in the tourney doesn't go into turbo mode against us.
I'm probably bias but I feel like our opponents often hit tough shots. Kudos to them! But to respond to your post, which I like. I feel like we'll go turbo on them!!!

I'm not very good at golf, but I always get a lower score when playing with better players. I still get beat by the other 3 guys in our foursome, but my best scores have come when playing alongside good players. I wonder if that is what is happening when Illinois plays other teams this year? Maybe our offense is so good it just elevates the other teams shooting. How many teams have had their best offensive games against us this season?

Love Underwood calling out Raphael Davis about the whole All Defensive Team discussion and then Raphael's response to that in the studio. I agree with Raphael. Top defenders don't need a double team and should be able to defend a particular player all game long rather than for stretches within a game. He subtly called out TSJ for not asking coach to defend Christie in the 1st half when he was on his heater.

I'm wondering if some of our guys have an incorrect belief in how good of defenders they are. There seems to be a disconnect. But, hey, at least TSJ and Coleman can use this as motivation to prove guys like Raphael wrong. But, he knows what he's talking about and he isn't wrong

That game clocked in at 66 possessions, which is the 3rd fewest in a game Illinois has played in B1G play this season (Indiana and OSU were slower). However, they scored 105(!) points in 66 possessions, which is the craziest offensive performance of the season in conference play.

That doesn't work anymore. This isn't the 90s and early 00s. Teams set so many picks to create switches and mismatches. Top defenders especially perimeter defenders need help nowadays. You aren't going to see one on one matchups all game anymore.

Agree but I disagree with some of the things Davis said

Cliff cannot stop Edey. Edey doesn’t need help he would be on my defensive team he changes everything

Ace is good but he didn’t rotate into TSJ and prevent him from getting 35

Hawkins plays out of position on a 5 but is locked down on 3/4

It is tough to pick a defense team because defense is a team effort and is about match ups.

I feel like one problem with our defense is that we’re so confident we’re going to score on offense that we don’t commit to getting stops on defense. You can tell there are moments in the game where we need to get a stop and we get one. We just have to play like that all game long.

(and I’m sure there are a hundred other things happening on defense that I’m unaware of cuz I’m just a normal dude)
