I'm certainly not implying that it's undesirable. I'm willing to accept the ugly in order to behold the sublime when Belo's out there.
Maybe I was too obtuse. I am a big fan of Belo and I don’t criticize or apologize for his screw ups because I enjoy his innovative contributions and his pure love of the game.
Unflappable.
I still believe a healthy Belo will see his jersey in the rafters after his senior year.

This seems about right. We are still very inconsistent. At times we play at a top 10 (or better) level and other times we play like a bottom half of the B1G team. Sometimes it's even in the same game!

Considering for wisconsin

lost 2 quad 3/4 games at home...
beat minnesota twice by an avg of 3 points
only beat MD by 1
was blown out by a now unranked OSU
beat penn state by only 2
barely beat nichols state

I would reckon the inconsistency line applies just as much to them as us

Question: What's everyone stance on Andre right now? Do we need to put him on a short leash? Or do you believe theres no final four run without him being a focal point, so it's give him his minutes and hope for the best?

There were at least three moments in the second half where I yelled some curses at Brad to take him out, and then he'd do something 30 secs later and I'd say...finneeee..leave him in!

Wisconsin's pre conference wins are significantly better than anything we have. Had we beaten Arizona, it's a different story. Had we not lost to Cincinnati, it's a different story. We're very biased, but from a macro level, their resume is better than ours.
Significantly better? No they aren't. They beat Houston by 2 and St. Marys, I'm not sure how really good either are because they play in very inferior conferences, big deal. That's not significantly better. Pre conference is such a crapshoot being that it's early in the season when teams are still shaping themselves. I know that Wisconsin's losses in conference are Signifcantly worse than ours when teams are already in a good rhythm.

He was the second best player on the floor until the 3 minute mark of the second half. At that point, he had 14 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 1 TO, and had shut down Perkins in the second half defensively (1 for 5 from the field with 3 TOs, also missed 5 of 6 FTs, so maybe he was also tired). He basically took Plummer/DMW's minutes in the 2nd half.

From that point on, he had 3 TOs and 3 fouls. I think it's still a matter of him getting 100% game fit, and he deserves more than the benefit of the doubt from the team.

I still don't get this bizarre sentiment that Curbelo is hurting the team when he plays, but when he's been healthy he's been very good, both offensively and defensively.

I stand by my jersey in the rafter prediction above. If he had been healthy all year, we would be a more consistent and diversified offensive threat, but it is what it is.

This discussion could go on forever. Regardless, color me not interested. To be the best, you have to beat the best. Ranking has no influence on that. To win the NCAA title, you have to be good in all facets of the game as well as be very lucky. This Illini team will almost certainly not win it all....but they can with a lot of luck. They rely on energy as most teams, and how much they can bring EVERY game as well as execution will be the determining factors regardless of ranking. What every player can contribute when given the chance will determine their success....from Kofi to Omar...all will be needed to play well.

It has been a hugely satisfying season to watch as far as I am concerned. Seeing these kids develop, find ways to contribute, and get better was a treat. But there is still room to grow. Blunders and lackadaisical turnovers need to be eliminated or minimized. Competence needs to be the norm. Every possession needs a good shot...so tough to do against a plethora of stronger teams every game. Every opponent should be hugely respected....excepting Michigan of course.

Let's all hope the best is yet to be seen.

I wasn't upset when Curbelo fouled out. I said, "Good, Coach will have to bring somebody who Perkins can't post up." O the other hand, I like him, and am glad that he's an Illini. I'm a little confused I guess.

If any of the voters watch our games, and I question that, they would see what we see: chronic inconsistency, frequent periods of stagnant offense, and a two dimensional offensive attack: 3 pts or Kofi.
Belo, Trent, and Plummer all drive to the basket at least occasionally with a lot of success.
Hawk has a nice mid-range I wish he'd shoot more.

Same for me. I thought he BU should have subbed DMW for him just before his 5th foul, then put him back in for offense.

Lunardi still has Wisconsin projected as a 2 seed after their loss to Nebraska. He has ILLINOIS as a 4 seed.
You just have to learn to ignore Lunardi.

Year-in/year-out, his bracket has us 1-2 slots worse than the Selection Committee. I think it's primarily an East coast bias, among other things. This has been true since he started bracketology ~30 years ago. Jerry Palm (CBS) has it right this morning. He's more aligned to the the thinking of the NCAA. I think if you asked Lunardi which Illini games were played/lost without Curbelo and/or Kofi, he wouldn't know the answer.

I'm also unsure of having DMW and Kofi in knowing Wisconsin had to foul, but the only other options were freshmen so......

It is, but the gap tightened significantly yesterday, IMO. A home loss to Nebraska is WAY worse than anything on our resume, and we picked up another Quad 1 win vs. Iowa (a team the computers absolutely love). If Wisconsin were to lose in the BTT quarterfinals and we were to make the finals (beating IU/Michigan and then presumably Iowa/Rutgers), I think we'd have at least as good of a resume. The Committee does consider some things beyond the hard numbers, IMO.

But what would those same critical eyes see in Wisconsin's offense?

Wow. I see 7 teams ahead of us that don't deserve to be. Ok, I'm biased, but split the difference, and we're # 12. Hopefully, ncaa committee will favor us better than AP polls.

As to Belo, I thought he has played well but has shot the ball poorly. You have to take a few TOs with what he brings in ball movement. Last night his shooting was the problem - 4 of 12 IIRC. For the team to be successful going forward, we need him hitting 50% of his shots as he is the one guy on the team that has no problem getting open looks. But think BU has to give him playing time now to get him up to speed for the dance, even if he is not 100%.
WRT having Kofi and DMW on the floor at the end. This was these guys last home game with a conference championship on the line, so I have no problem with having them on the court and putting the ball in their hands to win or lose. The absolutely last thing I would want to happen as the coach is to take out my seniors and have underclassmen cost them their one chance at a conference championship ring.

Am I alone in thinking winning the BTT is the only way we get to a 3 seed (outside shot at 2)? We won't beat anyone of sufficient quality to move the needle until the BTT and at that time the bracket is basically set. I think we need some help with early losses by Purdue or Wisky but then we lose a chance for a marquee win if we make BTT finale. Really would like to get off 4 seed line.
