Illinois 34, Wisconsin 10 Postgame

We own at Sanibel Beach Club. Were due to go down next Saturday. My wife is on the Board of Directors. Our household has been hopping with activity. Ian's destruction is worse than Charley's. I know where you are coming from.
I hope they are ok the death toll is expected to be close to 1000. It was really great seeing such a monumental win for the Illini today. Stay safe

I’m a BB junkie, but only followed FB casually the last decade or so. This is a great win, and it looks like our arrow is pointing up.

my question is how much of the progress we are seeing is coaching and how much is an upgrade in talent? I’m asking because better players win more games.

Majority of the guys with the most reps are Lovie recruits. BB has certainly filled some key holes, but 90% of the improvement is better coaching. This year should show an uptick in recruiting talent and hopefully better support for the team on saturdays. We are making the progress that seemed possible, but maybe not probable when BB was hired. It’s a great time to be an Illini fan!!

There was a lot said in the past off season that we would regress this year................I don't see it and we really should be 5-0.............the punchface loosiers loss stills angers me big time.........

It was a good win, and on the road makes it even better...but there's still a lot to improve on....lots of penalties that need to be eliminated.....offense was not particularly good on running the ball short and goal...can we carrying the momentum from this game into next weeks game??....we'll see but hoping this is the new normal!!
If we get Josh McCray back at full speed, I think he gets us over the hump on 4th and short yardage situations. That man is a load to tackle, and a freight train power runner.

Last couple decades, we’ve seen Illinois pop up and win an upset game here and there.

This one felt different. This one feels like it has carry.

Time will tell, but it really feels like this is a game we’ll look back to and say, “That’s when we knew.”
This^ It's exactly what I thought at the end. This felt nothing like those wins in '19 (comeback at MSU, Homecoming v. Wisc.) This just felt solid throughout, excluding that first drive. I began to feel good midway through the second quarter when we took the lead. Then after that opening drive in the second half you could tell the Wisc D was beginning to wear down. Then... complete domination the rest of the way. At no point did I worry our D would yield anything.

Two. Yards. Net. Rushing. Wisconsin's offense. In Camp Randall. Let that sink in. Mertz was a relative Patrick Mahomes in the air today compared with that.

Win several more like this: recruits' heads begin to turn, MS seats begin to fill.

That's the stunning stat of the game. Even without Mertz being sacked for -22 their leading rusher had all of 16 yards for the entire game.

Their next highest?

3 yards.

That's it.

Agreed. This doesn't feel like some fluke. It's a product of good players and excellent coaching. 2-0 is very doable, but definitely not easy.

As long time Illini football fans we may have forgotten what competent coaching looks like.
It looks like this.

All phases seem coordinated, no problems getting on and off the field, no play call confusion, no dumb penalties, no clock issues etc.
I am not missing the searching, befuddled looks Lovey gave us too often.
